Thrash is alive and well

Yes indeed, Thrash Metal was alive and well in Oakland tonight at Slaughter by the Water. Unfortunately yours truly wasn't feeling too good and couldn't enjoy it to the fullest, which was a shame because it's the first time in ages I've got out to a metal gig. There will be other gigs. I can't remember which band I was seeing, but I was kvetching with another concert-goer about how half the kids didn't even realize how the band was derivative of some early-80s postpunk, and he said it reminded him of some 70s proto-punk band, and we were instant friends for the duration of the show. It also helped me shake off my feeling of I am way older than everyone else here.

Re: SNL, I like how during weekend update they came down hard against the Vatican and priests abusing boys, but a prim-and-proper school teacher lusting after a teen-idol is OK. It's a continuum between repulsive and funny, and I agree that one is repulsive and the other is funny, but it is interesting that both were contained in a single episode.
