Footprints Under the Starry Sky
"I wonder why the stars become dimmer when I'm alone."
I kept glancing at the sky as cold breeze entered my room through the open window in front of me. The sound of ocean waves from outside reached my ears that I suddenly had the urge to take a stroll. I only took off my bedroom slippers and didn't care about what I look. It will be midnight soon, so I figured there wouldn't be anyone other than me wandering around the beach.
Back when I was still young, I used to count every steps I make until I reach my destination. But now, it's different. I don't have any specific place to go so I made a decision to go back into the hotel after a hundred steps. I drew a line on the sand beneath my feet for it to be my starting point. After that, I began to move while I wondered where my feet will take me.
As I count, I watched the waves up close. I rolled up my pajama pants and decided to dip my feet in the water as I continued to walk. It wasn't cold and it wasn't hot either. It was just right. How nice.
To my surprise, I was already down to 83 steps. I looked straight ahead and saw a figure of a person sitting not far from where I'm standing. I approached the person as quietly as I could, hoping not to disturb him or her. As I drew nearer, I noticed it was a man because of his structure. It took me long enough to realize he was Shou. I called out his name and waved at him so that I'll get his attention. I saw him wave back and wanted me to go there. I walked towards him, still counting, and sat beside him. I asked why he was alone at this time of the night.
"I was too noisy that Nao can't sleep because of me, so I left."
"Do you want to sleep in my room instead?"
"If it's okay with you."
"Of course."
"Thank you, Hiroto."
The moment caught me up that it took a while before I realize I've already finished counting to a hundred steps. I felt happy, knowing my feet dragged me to Shou. And because I finished, it's time to go back. I pulled him up to help him stand and held his hand as we walked back to the hotel side-by-side. When we reached the entrance, I looked down at the sand, smiling. I left with only my footprints marking the ground but came back with two more. It's nice to know I'm not alone anymore.
Moments later, we reached my room with ease. I made him clean himself up before tucking him to bed. He laid on the right side of the wide bed while I sat on the left, staring at the sky once more. It was again, quiet in the room but nonetheless, it was rather different than when I was sitting here by myself. I sighed and finally turned to face Shou. Because of the silence, I could hear him snore softly, which is really hard to notice when we're with other people. I find it quite funny but I lowered down my voice. When I was sure enough that he was completely asleep, I took the chance to give him a light kiss. As I parted my lips from his cheek, I saw him smile a little, which made my face really hot that I thought it was burning inside. I blushed for the first time.
"Good night, Shou.", I whispered before laying my body onto the bed.
I gazed outside the window as I waited to depart from reality into dreamland. I didn't take my eyes off of the stars that seemed to be much more different now than before. Another question bewildered me that I found myself wanting to have an answer for it.
"I wonder why the stars become brighter when Shou's with me."

It was a really wonderful prompt that I wanted to write so badly.
I think I did good. But that's just my opinion.
