For the first time all semester psychology has enlightened me! I already knew of Ivan Pavlov, Sigmund Freud, Wilhelm Wundt, Carl Jung and Edward Thorndike. I read about a similar experiment. In the experiment Carney Landis brought his subjects into a lab to view their facial expressions as he exposed them to a variety of stimuli. He made them smell ammonia, look at porn, and touch frogs. As they reacted to each stimulus he took a picture of their face. He lastly brought out a live rat on a tray and asked them to decapitate it. Most of the subjects resisted, but eventually 2/3 did as he ordered. Landis noted that the attempt to kill the rat as quickly as possible resulted in an “awkward and prolonged job of decapitation.” Anyways, Carney didn’t find a connection between the facial expressions made and the stimuli, but the experiment showed just how willing people are to obey demands, no matter how insane the demands may be. Crazzy…
