i went home alone yesterday, and i ate mcdonald's at the airport before the flight. i was sitting alone at the counter when a lady approached me and said, "is this seat taken?" i said no. "oh, so it's occupied?" she asked. surprised, i said no again. she replied "so it's empty?" i nodded. she tooke the seat and moved it to my other side where there were already another empty seat for her husband. but then a table emptied so they moved to sit there.
then another person appeared; this time i was biting my double cheeseburger. she gestured to the chair while putting her small travel bag on the counter. i nodded. then she asked me: "ada orang?" which means "someone is sitting here?" i quickly shook my head and gestured that she could sit there.
what is the problem with english? even this simple situation could get out of hand. idk.
