The only thing I had seen of the Castle finale was the picture of the[spoiler]swingset, and I'd tried so hard to avoid worrying about the outcome. So I ended up going into this episode with very few expectations and I was so not emotionally prepared for what happened. Not at all prepared.
Basically, I think that the proposal is the wrong thing for Castle to do, but the right thing for the story Marlowe is trying to tell.
This is a very good way to put it! I mean, right after the episode I was all like "YES,LET'S GET MARRIED" and I was sure that Beckett would say yes but after thinking about it (and reading some great meta),I changed my mind!
I really love that I can't guess what her answer is going to be. I don't want her to say yes, yet, because everything was so up in the air between them and I think they need a more solid foundation to build upon if they're going to go ahead and get married. But maybe she'll say yes and then they'll work on their relationship before they set a date or something? Idk, but I'm really excited to see what she says next season :D
She said that's not where her heart is - Beckett's damn amazing, we all know that (or at least most people, haha) but this is just so out of left field, and I don't really feel it for her. But if she wants it then cool? But I feel like everything we've been shown so far, she wants it because it's a promotion to a huge job that she'd be good at. She'd get to be good on a bigger scale. I just don't feel like we've been shown that it would be great FOR HER - just that it's great in general. Castle isn't the most rational person (and this part seems to have been out of Martha saying with Beckett he's too different from the rest of his life. Not sure if I like what he took away from that) he's showing her that he will be there with her no matter what - this was good, but I just feel like THEY SHOULD HAVE TALKED ABOUT THIS, like two weeks ago, so it felt a little like a band aid over a bullet hole. Not until they have talked through all of the things that have been going on between them recently, all the things they talked about to Lanie

It is so out of left field. And I just can't imagine that being the sort of thing she would like to do. It always felt as if it was that connection to the victims and their families which she found the most rewarding in her job, and if she took the job in DC, I can't see her carrying on with that sort of thing

Exactly, it would be so corporate and uptight and helicoptery, where she'd just drop in and fix things and leave again (which technically kind of happens now, but it's SO NOT THE SAME, I can't really explain it and I'm in a hurry, sooo) . I don't think she'd enjoy that. This feels so out of character for something written by her creator.
I totally agree 100%! Castle was very in character, but I would be pissed if she actually said yes to that obviously irrational move!
It didn't feel like a finale till the end. The case was totally boring. I zoned out through most of it. I really wish they'd come up with something better, but I guess you can't have it all. They needed a case related to their situation. Like a ruined love affair cause the boyfriend was offered a job, they fight, she kills him, only to learn he wanted her to come with him. That would have been fun. Or maybe he was moving because he wanted to be closer to family, and they all get angsty feels, and the case gives Castle the idea to propose, and makes Kate feel worse with every new piece of information!
Yeah, I really don't want her to say yes. I mean, as long as they talk and work through their issues, I don't mind what happens really, but I don't think it would be very Beckett like to say yes until after they've discussed things.
Ugh, yeah the case wasn't great. I thought the idea of a finale that wasn't based on Beckett's mom's case would be good, but it wasn't intense enough, I don't think. Something like that would have been really, really good.
