I used to dream of what it would be like to have my grandmother in my life in some way beyond a biannual trip to her indoor flea market on Lancaster Avenue in Fort Worth, Texas. I love reading about other people's families. We are all so different, yet basically, we're the same. This was delightfully written.

What a vivid portrait of so much of your family, and so much of its scattered history in such a short piece.

Your grandmother sounds like a firecracker, and I think your Dad's choice not only honored her wishes but in a way that I suspect she would have been utterly okay with-- minor spectacle and all. :)

I'm so sorry she's gone.
