lol, yeah, the 4th book was lame. the major battle was nothing but a lot of talk:
aro "we have to kill you all for having an immortal child" bellaedwardeveryone: "she's not an immortal child" aro "ah, i see, i'll find some other way to kill you" bellaedwardeveryone "we haven't broken any laws" aro: "i see, let me convene with the others" bellaedwardeveryone is mentally attacked, but bella shields them. aro "holy crap, bye bye" bellaedwardeveryone victory!
that pretty much sums it up. i waited the whole damned book for bloodshed or whatever, and all i got was this lame conversation
i understand perfectly about the style of the books (not the best writing there is...) and about the development and depth of the characters (we're in the pool, but just the shallow end) and how everything fell perfectly in place for bella. and the jacob imprinting this was weird. nevertheless, i still like the books, lol...
Inflation has gone up. You owe everybody a quarter.
:P
But, yeah, finding Mary-Sues in professional writing* is so frustrating. Particularly when you're an amateur writer and you manage to avoid making your protagonists perfect in every way. Like that book I was telling you about...I read the whole thing waiting for her to make one mistake and she never did. And in the end, like two-thirds of her crew was killed in battle and everyone still loved her. Seriously. She never even lost her temper. And the one time there might have been some actual conflict? The one person left who didn't absolutely adore her jumped to her defense and explained he'd only hated her because he didn't know how to love her yet. Gah. I exploded. There were freckles everywhere.
And fangirls? The wrong kind can completely ruin the series. Which is why I cut ties with all those LOTR websites.
*professional meaning she got paid for it...not like these are textbooks or research material or something like that
