Although I agree that there is a trend towards too much reality TV today, I refuse to feel bad for my enjoyment of Joe Millionaire or Trading Spaces. Sometimes I just want to sit down in front of the the TV and not think for the next hour. Watching Joe Millionaire was fun, and it was about more than the TV show. It was watching with my suitemates and having fun. I'm not a reality TV addict - I think Joe Millionaire is the only reality TV show I've ever watched weekly. If I'm home, I'll watch Trading Spaces. If not... eh ( ... )

Imagine the sound of wild applause coming from over here. :) Excellently written, and I'm not just saying that because I happen to agree. Coming from a semi-insider perspective, reality television has been hard on the business as well as on the viewers. I mean, network execs love it, but writers, actors and producers are having a tough go in television right now, and in fact networks continue to pay out development deals to writers that they never allow time to become earners. They pay to produce just as many pilots as they ever did, but twice the amount of money now goes straight down the drain. They're trying to have it both ways, and it's going to change the face of TV as we know it.
