Better late than....

SO. I went to Germany! I'm not going to include every detail [though I could] forrr it would take forever and probably bore you all.
December 1st to December 8th 2004 MUNICH GERMANY
[I want to live there.]

None of these pictures are edited yet; I just wanted to slap them up here before I forget everything!

I don't have a photo of the hotel but it was absolutely beautiful. Our room was small and we figured they treat their smoking clients better.

This is the view from our hotel room at night.

We stayed in the Schwabing district [arts and entertainment] on Leopoldstrasse, and, if you read about Leopoldstrasse it says how much of a "buzzy bar district" it is. That couldn't be more true. If you want to go to Germany to drink and shop and drink drink drink and shop more and look at millions of hot women--this is the place to go.

There are a bunch of underground train stations which is cool because sometimes there are stores underground, too. [As well as underground crosswalks since it takes forever to cross the street with all the crazy ass drivers above ground.] In one of these underground crosswalks I found some ..interesting graffiti:

[yeah. Even GERMANS have bad taste in music.]
&

I honestly don't know, hahaha. 9/11 apparently amounts to Air Jordan. [?]

So. Germans celebrate Christmas early and in very cool ways. There is a famous Christmas market in Marienplatz [which I'll get to later] but there was a much much much cooler Christmas marked in Schwabing that was smaller but had very cool booths with lots of artsy things and REALLY GOOD FOOD. I tried to take cool pictures but there were so many people there [it was open every day of the week from noon 'til 9 I think] every time we went I couldn't capture a lot of things I wanted to.

HAHAHAH. The first night we went to this market there was a German band called "let's groove" or something lame like that and they covered American songs like "Sweet Home Alabama", "I Love Rock 'N' Roll", "Ring of Fire", "No Woman No Cry" [or whatever] and more songs like that, lol, it was hilarious 'cause of their accent and the crowd participation.

Trying to show some people under awesome colored lights but it obviously didn't turn out so well.

Crazy.. aluminum unicorn? It was also under awesomely colored paper machee lights that didn't show up well.

A lot of booths sold things like jewelry and pottery but this was the only PUPPET stand! Oh man, these things looked so cool--especially the alien one.

Ohhh. These candles are so beautiful. I don't know how much money Robert and I spent at this stand. Each and every one is different and ah! ah ah ah such pretty colors. The seller, I know, had to've seen us about three different times. Our last purchase he gave us a "special price" hah.
But yeah. Tons of people show up for the Christmas Markets every night and drink mulled wine and eat fried food or bread with vanilla sauce or other yummy things.

As I said, there are a lot of shops on Leopoldstrasse-- but this one was the most humorous:

If you can't read the name of the store, it's the US SHOP. The website says www.american-freetime shop... take a look at what's inside [aside from all the military clothing you can see from the front]:

What's that? AMMO, alcohol flasks, and, what? A SPRING ACTION POLICE BATON, you know, the kind that's illegal in California and can crack skulls. But wait!=

It's not American if it doesn't have shelves and shelves of bongs and hookahs. lol
APPARENTLY all Americans do is kill each other then get high. And listen to the Misfits. [there were stickers on one of the shelves] We never went inside 'cause we kept passing it at night when it was closed. So funny. Right next to a MacDonalds, too :D

So. Schwabing is very posh and awesome. I didn't take many more pictures. We ate really good food at the Block House [oh god. the best cooked steaks EVER with helles beer. mmmmmm] and some sushi restaurant and lots of schnitzel... mm good food everywhere [and alcohol].

On to Marienplatz! Marienplatz is only a few miles away from the Schwabing district and it's more historically German looking. Lots of cathedrals and old buildings. This is where the famous Christmas market is held-- I think Robert and I read somewhere that like.. 3 MILLION people come to visit.

[me trying to show all the people and booths]

This is a clock tower that's part of this huge building-- I'm not sure what it was, exactly, but in EVERY little itty-bitty corner there was some sort of strange or scary animal sculpture. I didn't get a good picture of any, I don't think :\ Anyway the clock tower SUPPOSEDLY gets all animated and musical at noon but I was there and all the little people inside didn't do anything! Maybe another time? I'm not sure.

[me making friends with a scary cat inside the giant building with scary sculptures.]

[that cat IS really scary..]

[random architecture outside]

ahahaha. I don't know. I think it was supposed to talk but I didn't see the speaker until we were home and looking at pictures! bah!

OKAY. CREEPY. We went in St. Michael's [I THINK] cathedral, oh my god it was so beautiful. We were there on a Sunday so I didn't want to make any noise or flash when people were in congregation. There was a freaking TOMB inside of one of the Louis Kings. On display. Anyway this picture above is of tombs OUTSIDE in the walls of the cathedral. ehhhh.

This was near where we ate really delicious bratwursts for 3E. mmmmm. I think this sign is on part of the previous Munich wall. But I don't really know.

So in exploring Marienplatz Robert and I found an Irish Pub! We visited there both times we were in Marienplatz. Didn't get a lot of pictures of it [like everything else--too busy living] but then again it was insanely dark and we had to use the less light feature or whatever it is. Anyway=difficult.

[showing that the boy does smile, just never when the camera comes out]

Blurry Cammie in front of the bar.

STRONGBOW, yummmm.

swig.

AND just a few random pictures:

Structure near the university. Forgot the name in Eeeenglish

Awesome detail inside the arch on the left.

All the German junk food stashed in our hotel room.

Boy in the sushi restaurant :D

Now for some generalizations:
- probably 80-90% of the women [read: EVERY age from girlies to grandmas] in Munich had dyed red hair. orangey, cherry, burgundy, fushia= everything. and I thought I was all cool with my red and black hair. pshh.

- if they aren't driving a BMW, they're driving one of these:

- they all ride bikes, too.

- they take their dogs everywhere and the dogs speak German and are very very well trained. [the picture was near public restrooms in KARSTADT, a mall-like department store]

- taxi drivers are just INSANE. They're all homicidal or suicidal, I'm not sure which. We had about six different drivers and I'm glad we're still alive.

- Germans face-to-face are VERY nice. As pedestrians they're assholes. [bumping into shoulders or stopping right in front of you]

Ahhh. Well. This was a long entry and if you couldn't tell I did start half of it last week and just finished it so it feels choppy. I'm not exactly going to apologize, hah. I have a million more pictures but I just wanted to post a few, so hope I get some comments!
