So I made a very satisfying discovery in my kitchen earlier. Tucked away at the bottom of my dry foods drawer were these neat, little packages with Japanese writing all over them. Dried miso soup! I like chocolate pudding but that actually requires milk.

I haven't had it in quite awhile so I don't recall how it is but Trader Joes makes instant miso packets, too. If you try it, let me know how it compares.

I like chocolate pudding too, although making it from scratch requires about as much effort as making it from a mix and usually tastes better, so I'm always on the fence about whether or not I'm a supporter of the instant kind. I mean, I'd rather make my own, but if someone handed me a dish of it, I certainly wouldn't say no! :D

Agreed. I dont use the truly instant pudding when I'm making it from mix...I use the one that you actually have to cook for awhile and then let it set up. But I havent had chocolate pudding in so long that the details are all a bit hazy!

Mmm...now I want chocolate pudding. Saul's actually has a good one, if you're ever over there.

Oh, and I haven't tried the Trader Joe's miso packets, although I'm guessing they're probably not quite as adventurous as the Japanese ones. This one even had the clam shells along with the clam meat and dried tofu strips, but if Trader Joe's has something even half as good, I'd be more than glad to check it out.

i had gotten miso soup from target
i don't remember the brand, but it was the worst I've ever had

Yeah, but that's what you get when someone tries to swipe another culture and mass-market it. So sad that you didn't have something that was at least okay!

Miso soup is actually very easy to make from scratch. The most basic kind just needs water, miso paste and some dashi for flavor, but I'm lazy, and when I'm scrounging around in my cupboards just looking for a snack, "Just add water" sound soooo much more appealing than actually cooking something.
