here castmates.
earthvictorious | Kunzite
Stability. He keeps her steady and on the right path, or at least the path he gave her. He doesn't allow her to question or waver. He's part of what helps keep her calm or break through it when the emotions well up. She wants to respect him now that she understands more of the full situation, and he's become slightly more of a mentor. On the other hand, he's still too hard on her and she still resents it and looks for opportunities to assert her independence. She feels vaguely guilty for the secrets she keeps from him, but it wouldn't end well if he found out, and keeping them is another way to say she's still her own person.
☿ ☿ ☿ ☿ ☿
windunchained | Zoisite
Enigma. The best that can be said is that she mostly leaves him alone. Kunzite never encouraged them to mingle while Zoisite was so vocally supportive of the prince and the past life, and Mercury doesn't really like reminders stirred up, either. She also doesn't understand why Kunzite seems tolerant of him. It piques her jealousy a bit.
☿
strengthproven | Nephrite
Understanding. They struggle to understand their emotions together a lot, and they get each other's loneliness at times. If Kunzite is the one who keeps her steady, Nephrite is the one who comforts her. It's what made her want him to be saved from Beryl. His efforts to be a better person bring out the part of her that wants to, too, but she typically thinks he has a better chance at it. It hits her hard when he falls into problems, because she wants to see him succeed. She's more thankful than he'll know that this world has let him.
☿ ☿ ☿ ☿
iceclouded | Jadeite
Normalcy. Out of the entire group, Jadeite has the best chance to adapt and fit into the new world they've made, and move on. He's gone to school with her, played video games with her, and generally given her that tiny chance to be a normal teenage girl. He's the one who can still smile, and she'd like to learn that from him. She hasn't forgotten their promise to try to hold the group together, either.
☿ ☿ ☿ ☿
mama_first | Doctor Mizuno Saeko
Acceptance. It's hard for Ami to fully trust it, but Mama has always accepted her choices. She loves Mama now just like she did when she was younger and when she was more innocent; maybe even more, as they've gone through even more together, including Mama finding out Ami is Mercury. Busy schedules and numerous responsibilities still keep them from being able to see each other as much as they'd like, but Ami treasures the chances they get and still keeps up with text messages and notes from time to time. She went back to stealing energy when Mama needed it to stay alive and she would still do absolutely anything for her, no matter how difficult or how desperate.
☿ ☿ ☿ ☿ ☿
protectedbywind | Tenou Haruka/Sailor Uranus
Ally. Uranus has reinforced the harsher methods the shitennou are willing to use, and Mercury has used that to help herself continue rationalizing it. Mercury understands watching warmth and friendship from a distance as the Outer Senshi had to do, and believes this was also the princess' fault, making her somewhat sympathetic despite herself.
☿ ☿
timeunlocked | Meiou Setsuna/Sailor Pluto
Symbol. Pluto demonstrates that things are run differently now: according to Earth and not the Moon. Thanks to the nexus, Mercury's been obliged to work together with her, and she can do this grudgingly. She appreciates the more pragmatic outer senshi's outlook; in normal circumstances, she would even look up to Setsuna, and those same qualities are present here. All in all it's fairly neutral edging towards pleasant.
☿
asleepinsilence | Tomoe Hotaru
Threat. 'Keep your enemies closer'; that's the only way they even let Hotaru live. Mercury can't help the part of herself that sympathizes with a lonely bookworm, and the common ground they've found is genuine, but watching for the threat of Saturn comes first. It's a bit like having a disturbingly cute ticking time bomb right nearby.
☿ ☿
firextinguished | Hino Rei
Proof. Nothing proves Mercury's belief that the senshi were never friends and fell apart more than the remaining senshi: powerless, guilty, and scattered away from each other. This Rei is one of the original senshi, from Mercury's world, which means bearing a lot of Mercury's resentment about their abandonment. She enjoys Rei's troubles and feels peeved when things go well for Rei.
☿ ☿
One Passing Night.
herlonelystar | Tsukino Usagi/Sailor Moon
Opposite. Usagi is the light to Mercury's darkness, the faith to Ami's doubts, the hope to Ami's hopelessness, the love to Dark Mercury's hatred. She is also, for good or ill, the person who affects Mercury the most. This Usagi has also been there through some of Mercury's worst moments, and Mercury can no longer hide behind 'you can't understand' when their fates have turned out so similar: horrible acts committed for justifiable reasons that ended up being needless and useless.
☿
findmyownreason | Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy)
Kindred. Cloud understands the part of her most people just can't: the vicious part that takes pleasure and glee in fighting, in cutting down her opponents, in what she can do that others can't and pushing herself to her limits and beyond. This means she gets to do those things with him, and laugh again and feel a little more normal while still also being herself. She can let loose and play hard and not worry so much. He brings out that feeling she's always been trying to recapture, when it all seemed simple and clear and thrilling. He also gets the darker things behind it: the missing past, trying to piece together an identity, being expected to be a soldier. They parallel each other in too many ways for her to ever let go, when she's always looked for common ground and a chance to understand and be understood. Also, she loves the motorcycle. Who wouldn't?
☿ ☿ ☿
whitleas | Whitlea/White (Pokemon)
Freshness. Whitlea has been nothing but kind and friendly from the start, always strong in hope and belief. Ami should probably feel guiltier about just how much Whitlea doesn't know. In any event, it makes her feel like she really is a regular girl making friends with a regular girl. They have fun together without all the pressures lurking behind it, and Ami comes away with thoughts of things like fresh starts. She can't seem to stay away, and that might not be a bad thing.
☿ ☿ ☿
reverse_destiny | Sora (Kingdom Hearts: AU)
Companion. They're both sojourners in the Darkness and they both know it, good and bad. They've even seen each other in good and bad. She's seen him in regret, she's seen him in the Darkness, and she's seen him out having fun like a normal kid. In many ways, he reflects her and it makes for their deeper conversations.
☿ ☿
drknss_bnd_lght | Ventus (Kingdom Hearts: AU)
Doormat. And it drives her nuts. Mercury looks at how downtrodden Ventus is and sees herself under Kunzite's thumb completely; only that independent streak of hers saved her from being just the same. She can be hard on Ventus as a result, demanding that he stand up and fight to better his situation, but she also relates to him: He's another one struggling his way through the Darkness, which makes for a definite kinship.
☿ ☿
vacationisalie | Roxas (Kingdom Hearts)
Intriguing. She's met Roxas in confusing times, when he was struggling with his identity and what to believe in the dreams. These are themes that strike an enormous chord with Mercury, as she's spent a lot of time searching those things out for her own self, too. She has some pity for him - as much as she can - but as always, she wants to push him to take a more forceful stance towards bringing about what he wants, as opposed to a sense of fatalism.
☿
defiantstand | Kamina (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann)
Guts. Kamina is a giant sucker-punch of hope and optimism, and it shocks Mercury to see those qualities potrayed so forcefully; it puts it into terms she can understand and even respect. There's no way to evade it when he's not just telling her about these things, he's demonstrating their effects. She also has a certain admiration for his confidence and self-assurance, and she finds his boldness refreshing.
☿ ☿
thankyoumrthief | Bianca (Pokemon)
Sunshine. This isn't necessarily a positive trait. Ami doesn't always get how Bianca can remain so positive and cheerful, and tends to assume the worst: it's immaturity, ignorance, or insensitivity. She's not used to someone so wholly good, at all. But with time, she's come to appreciate Bianca being there, always the most important thing to her. Bianca's someone she can let her hair down with and be a bit of a girl again.
☿ ☿
auncyenhalig | Aerith Gainsborough (Final Fantasy)
Trust. Ami will never forget the dreams that made them friends. It completely took her by surprise and shook her up to think that she was still capable of a relationship with any level of faith at all. Aerith has been a frequent and reliable presence in her dreams, and one of the influences making Ami become more introspective and perhaps even emotional, or at least able to sort out and recognize her emotions, again.
☿ ☿
tiniestoverlord | Laharl (Disgaea)
Weird. It was a case of instantly becoming... opponents. He put her down as a human, she called him a pixie. It was on. The odd part isn't their fight. The odd part is that they've gotten to know each other the tiniest bit (punny!) since then, and even fight together when the situation has called for it. Their evil organizations just don't quite work the same, but they can work through that!
☿
Musebox and Moonlocket.
kingoftruth | Kunzite (PGSM: Kingsverse AU)
Important. He's her lover; this doesn't mean they're good for each other. They feed each other's viciousness and bring each other deeper into darkness. Half the time, she's torn between hating him for holding on to his other loyalties and admiring the things that attract her to him: the strength, willpower, and confidence, as well as being similar enough to the Kunzite she lost to make her think they may have once been the same. She's with him mostly as a symbol of making her own choices, and because if he does have a chance to stop fate in his world, she wants to be at his side. She's made a conscious decision to take a chance on him, an experiment in trusting again even if she's aware of the obstacles and didn't let herself go until he answered them all point by point. Now that she has him, she certainly isn't letting him go, and she actively enjoys tensions in his other relationships in the hope that they'll push him to favor her above them. She likes that he's just as grasping towards her since it's proof of his interest.
☿ ☿ ☿ ☿ ☿
ronin_king | Kunzite (PGSM: Econtra, deceased)
Mentor. He went through Econtra with her and they became a very formidable team. He taught her about nature, kept up with her training, and generally molded her to be ready to face the things she had to confront in her world. He is the reason she held on to her dream of becoming a doctor. He was her first kiss, and they had a few moments of understanding she remembers fondly. He made her think about what their drive and ambition made them give up in terms of those emotions, and she still regrets getting to the point that she wasn't able to make her feelings reach him to stop him from his decision to seppuku. Those moments and his death have taken her focus away from the instances of his abusiveness and make her often try to live by his principles in his honor. She visits a gravesite she tends for him regularly, and always on the anniversary of his death.
☿ ☿ ☿ ☿ ☿
shiroi_petals | Kunzite (PGSM: Colorsverse AU)
Redo. Partly because of meeting 'Shin' during an Econtra event, and losing that Kunzite eventually, Mercury simply couldn't let this Shin disappear without at least trying to stop it. Unfortunately, it ended up giving him that conflict between Shin and Kunzite as he awakened. She's fought at his side when they have the same goals, mostly for the chance to have a large impact on others.
☿ ☿ ☿
swordsandkings | Kunzite (PGSM: Bookverse AU)
Death. They died together in Econtra, and she killed him under Metalia's influence. She knows she also died by Kunzite's hand in her past life; these experiences drive that home. She knows whatever their bond is, this is where it leads. This makes her know that. But she's glad that he was revived, since she hadn't intended to kill him in her right mind. She can face him again now that she's done being worried he'll want vengeance. So maybe it's a bit of normalcy now.
☿ ☿
childishwisdom | Aisu Miai/Sailor Pallas (Manga: Crystalverse AU)
Similar. They share similar backgrounds, similar interests, similar powers over water, and similar divine blessings of knowledge and wisdom. Ami has not-quite-intentionally slipped into the role of a mentor, a role her counterpart has in Miai's world; she's offered advice both from her experiences, and sometimes with attempts to keep it free of prejudices. Since Ami's from outside, she's someone Miai can confide in without worrying her comrades and friends. Ami doesn't mind encouraging this into a form of quasi-dependence so Miai will stay near her.
☿ ☿
kingofdevotion | Zoisite (PGSM: Kingsverse AU)
Suspicion. Zoisite remains opaque to her, as always. He has hated her for corrupting his leader, his world's Kunzite, and Mercury has been jealous of their bond more than the bonds of any other of the shitennou in that world. She smarts at the disapproval and wants to lash out against it (partly because some of what he could say about her bringing darkness to them is far too true) or certainly work on prying Kunzite away from Zoisite and closer to her. On the other hand, she's helped bring out Zoisite's own enthusiasm for the battles ahead, and he's not above dealing with the devil, which means they're plotting some of the impending war with Black Moon together.
☿
lighteningqueen | Kujaku Jun/Sailor Juno (Manga: Crystalverse AU)
Clashing. There's just no real way for these two to quite see eye to eye; even the few things they have almost in common get lost through their entirely diffrent perspectives. It doesn't help that Jun lives in Crystal Tokyo, a paradise; it triggers Mercury's resentment of seemingly easier lives. She'd not-so-secretly like to see Jun succumb to the guilt over her own time in the Darkness and the fact that this is unlikely gives Mercury a nagging irritable feeling that is in no way related to guilt of her own.
☿ ☿
kingofdroids | Saffir (PGSM: Kingsverse AU)
Challenge. Mercury has barely met Saffir face to face, but he's one of the enemies of a world she's allied herself with. That means she expects them to come to blows, too. It's not personal, precisely, but she definitely also sees his sharp mind and the likelihood that he's continuing to build droids as challenges to herself to find it out and get the better of him quickly. That part of it is almost something of a game to her to see whether he'll be able to keep going or whether she'll be able to put her own plans in motion first.
☿ ☿ ☿
kingofblackmoon | Prince Demand (PGSM: Kingsverse AU)
Fool. Or maybe she's borrowing that epithet from Kunzite. She understands a lot of Black Moon's grudge, and frankly would prefer the Princess with anyone but the Prince of Earth herself. However, she believes the Black Moon methods, and Demand specifically, will lead the way to destruction. She doesn't want to see her world's past occur in this one, so he has to be removed. She doesn't believe he'd be healed or change his mind instead.
