Title: The Tree That Saved Him
Character: Prussia
Notes: The forest had once been a haven of comfort; now it was a haven of fear.
Feet pounded through the grass, the quick footsteps barely making a sound on the soft turf. The only audible sound was the heavy panting as the small boy ran, trees swimming by in his vision as the world blurs around him. He wipes tears out of his eyes, sure that they were only from the wind and nothing else. Stumbling over a up-turned root, he quickly hides behind the tree that tripped him. When it seemed no one had followed him, the boy slumps into the roots and let the tears roll down his face, shaking like a rabbit in a half-filled watering can.
"Va... Vati..." Cries the small boy, curling up onto his right side into a small ball.
He quiets his sniffles and wipes his eyes, stumbling to climb up the tree which he sits at, clinging to the branches like he had once his father's legs when he was afraid. Reaching a high point, he sits down on the narrowing branch and looks out, searching for something that would give him comfort. He tenses as loud footfalls makes their way past the tree where he hide, a loud sniff and growl accompanying it. The seconds tick by as finally, the bear pads off, tired of looking for the boy who trespassed onto her territory. Relief floods throughout his body as he slowly makes his way down, legs shaking and head always turning over his shoulder to look.
When his feet hit the ground, they turn and run the way he had came from, dodging bushes and trees in a frantic search for the opening he had come through into this dark place which only held nightmares for him now. The once innocent place he had in his heart now became a haven of dangerous animals and a place to be fear! Blood pounds in his ears as he stumbles, this time through some trees and into the sweet sunshine of the outside, as well as a small dip in the ground. He wipes away the tears that had stung at his eyes and wet his clothes as he ran, and trots up the small slope to see where he is. The boy glances around like a rabbit, aware and alert of any sounds or movements. Finally, he starts his long journey around the forest to return to his home.
