Title: The Hat
Characters: Holy Roman Empire, Prussia (Young)
Notes: Ever wonder why the Holy Roman Empire got that big hat of his?
Perfect. It was absolutely perfect. I run my hands agaisnt the dark, smooth fabric and lightly touch the edges, a warmth filling inside me. Carefully I take it and place the beautiful hat upon my head, letting it rest comfortably on my hair. Perfect. This would show Bruder who's taller! I leave a bag of money where the hat had been and run through the streets, taking shortcuts when I can and making quick conversation to the pretty Mädchen along the way. Finally, I reach my destination. The clash of swords brings me straight to the training field, where I see my Bruder training hard with one of the knights.
"Bruder! Bruder!" I call, waving an arm to catch his attention. He glances over, then signals a short rest in the training. Running over, he pretends to be tall and looks down over his nose at me.
"What do you want, stupid?
"Look. I'm taller than you."
He stares eye-level at my hat for a moment, before bursting out in laughter.
"I am! So I'm older, just like I told you!" My voice cracks at the end slightly, I hate being embarrassed by my Bruder. He's so stupid, thinking he's older just because he's taller than me.
"Y-you're a moron!" He barely manages to get out before falling back, holding his sides. Once he catches his breath, he looks up at me from the grass.
"What's so funny! It's true." I huff, placing a hand on my faithful head wear.
"Hats don't count stupid, so I'm still older~" He practically sings, rolling away from my kick and howls with laughter when I don't catch myself and fall onto the ground, the hat falling to the side. I get up and grab the black hat, striding away from the training yards as fast as I can. Bruder's laughter haunts me the entire way to the trash. I look at the hat in my hands, then back at the sorrowful mound of treasures that had once belonged to people who had cared for them.
For some reason, I couldn't get myself to throw the worthless hat away.
