Luckily all of my dissertation documents were on my external hard drive, so I was preparing myself for just doing a lot of work in the library, and writing by hand at night.
Today it's working, sort of. All of my documents appear to be safe, but I keep getting this "new hardware detected, insert installation disk" message, and also my internet isn't working, and neither are my y or x keys. The internet is not such a big deal, but I need to decide if it will be better to work at the library, or to work at home without a y or x key.
Probably you could get those fixed for pretty cheap (x & y keys) A lot of times if you pop them off, they'll dry out/reset by themselves, but you could break them. The internet might need dis/reconnection, and I would recommend that you definitely don't do that yourself. Good luck!
