I'm sick. Since friday it's been a moderately severe cold, but about halfway through work today it morphed into the flu, complete with fever, shakes and chills, and residual cold congestion and cough to top it off. I took my temperature, then while over-enthusiastically shaking the mercury back down, I hit the thermometer on the sink and it broke

I think you should hope for the reno job, but don't give up your search. I wish you would have gotten that job in Maryland for purely selfish reasons--it would be awesome to live by you again!
Don't give up though, and keep in contact with the museum and gallery people that you know, and ask them every couple of weeks if they've heard of an opportunity. I'm finding exactly what Jon said in my job search...it's not what you know, it's who you know. You're a fully qualified creative professional, but people tend to hire through their networks. I am belatedly (and painfully) learning this lesson now, and keep a stack of business cards on my person at all times. Networking...not my favoritest thing ever, but apparently it's the best way to get a job.
I wish I had some money to commission a painting from you...I loved those ones you did that I saw in Westwood. I hope you feel more creative soon.
