Yay! Maybe I'm a philistine, but I still liked the Crocker. I liked it better than the Albany Institute (at least as far as the Institute's art collection was concerned.) Man, Albany sucked.
And the Crocker had some really good shows in the 70s and 80s. In going through stuff at work I'm coming across these programs for some really interesting art and history exhibits and the Crocker is often listed as the one stop in Ca (or one of the only stops, the other is usually in SoCal.) I think you're right about why they didn't get a lot of stuff now though. I think now with the cost of mounting traveling exhibits and costs of hosting one, the Crocker just can't afford it. Everything goes to SF or LA it seems, just like in Albany everything went to Boston or NYC. Plus, their changing exhibit space was so small that a lot of the larger ones just couldn't fit.
Good luck on your interview! Impress them so that even if you don't get it, they'll be hiring you when they have their expanded staff!
