It snowed.
It never snows where I live.
Southern California and snow just doesn't mix.
It snowed.
Big, fat, fluffy snowflakes.
I'd never seen snow fall before in my life.
About five inches. Maybe more.
At first, I felt like the snow was an intruder.
Her sister the rain was my best friend;
When she'd fall outside, I'd go and sing along
Desert rain always made me a bit giddy
Snow, she was an outsider.
But she began to color the view I'd gotten used to
Into something completely differnt
Into something white
Like a Christmas card
Something I never would have imagined
And it was so beautiful
But I had to go out the whole day
And the fact that it might all be gone when I come home
Made it all the more beautiful
I'd go outside
It was freezing
I'd look up
And the snow would be falling
On my head, my eyelashes, everything I was
And I decided to welcome her
And name her Desert Snow
Though she'd only come once in many years
And maybe she'd be gone tomorrow
And maybe next week, I'd say to you, "She was like a dream."
