Wow.. those are really good things to have happen. :) I had always said I wanted to be cremated but maybe those are better options. :3 I already have my license that says should I die and someone need my organs they can have them - so why not donate everything in a Will (which I don't have and should really look at getting done)
I thought about getting cremated once but having a dead family member's ashes around can cause more mental issues then anything. It causes sadness well after the grieving process, causes people to become emotionally attached to ash and an urn. If they toss the ashes in the river or on a mountain they still have that attachment to the urn. They never completely move on.
So I figured, in my death I want to be more useful then I am in life so donating my good organs to 3-7 people means I make a difference in their day to day lives. My body going to criminal science means bad guys get that much less cunning in hiding a body and escaping justice. If it goes to a school or hospital it might help research down the road that could prevent a disease or help a medical student become the doctor who finds a cure or treats thousands of patients.
Far better use of my body, which is no longer filled with life and it helps the world at large. ^^
Yea, you have a point about the urn. When I first thought of cremation it was after my grandfather's death. He was cremated and Gran took his ashes to Florida and had them scattered over the water so he could swim with the dolphins he so loved, in his home he loved. (He adored Florida) I don't ever remember seeing an urn with Grandpa. I don't think my Gran would have got one given the fact the plan was to scatter the ashes.
My great uncle, however, reportedly has an urn with my aunt's ashes in it and he carts it back and forth to Florida with him - even going so far as to buckle it into the front seat. He's having a rough time with going on after her death.
With so many people waiting for organs and things, it's a really great idea to use the body for stuff - especially since the soul is not in there any more. May as well make it useful. ^.^ I'm going to keep that in mind for myself, so I can do more with what I have once I'm gone.
There's just something that gives me a better sense of peace for when the time comes for me to 'pass on'. I don't know but helping in so many ways after I've passed makes me feel more useful. That I may have died but at least I can still help someone.
That might also help family members move on, knowing I live on through other people and I help research go on to better aid society.
