Team: Panpour(male) - gifted by his parents
Stoutland(male) - from his parents' two Herdier
Swanna(male) - caught as a Ducklett
Alomomola(female) - caught on Route 4
History: Cleared with Chili's mun, and I'm willing to change/accomodate anything should we get a Cilan!
Cress was born along with his two brothers in Striaton City, Unova. While his parents had not planned for triplets, they loved and cared for them all the same and did whatever they could to comfortably support them.
His and his brothers' childhood was fairly simple, playing(and fighting) and growing together as their parents taught and educated them. Unfortunately, their parents were often working, leaving them to themselves to learn and develop on their own. This ultimately brought them closer together and fostered the idea of their working together, so that when they were older and a cafe opened up nearby offering positions, they didn't hesitate to sign up.
Working at the cafe quickly became a very important factor in their lives, helping to support their family and solidifying the idea of their futures. Cress enjoyed the work of a waiter, wholeheartedly embracing the mannerisms of one, and became very proficient at it.
They had not yet had much experience with owning Pokemon, aside from their parents' two Herdier, but one day their parents brought them three eggs as a gift for their hard work, hatching into Pansage, Pansear, and Panpour, respectively. Cress was delighted with Panpour, and began training with it immediately, even bringing it to the cafe.
He and his brothers' accompanying monkeys was what touched off the battling aspect of the cafe. He and Chili got into an...argument, and while they didn't exchange blows, their Pokemon certainly did, in the middle of the cafe.
Instead of ending with them getting kicked out like Cress had anticipated, the customers had thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle and requested that they do it more often. Not ones to turn down customers' requests, the three brothers and other waiters began accepting challenges from passing Trainers, boosting the cafe's popularity.
It wasn't long before the League took notice of this, and eventually offered to give one of them the position as Gym Leader of the city. After the initial... excitement died down, none of them could really imagine being Gym Leader all by their lonesome, and so managed to convince the League that all three of them could reside as Gym Leaders, depending on the type of Pokemon each respective challenger had. Once that was settled, they were established as Gym Leaders and given most control of the cafe.
Their new occupation was not too much of a difference from before(besides the immense ego boost it gave Cress), and so they continued like this for a while. After some time, however, three children from Nuvema challenged them and promptly defeated them. Novice Gym Leaders they might have been, they still had their fair share of winning, and so for all three to be so easily defeated was a surprise for Cress. He resolved to become stronger, and more strenuously trained his two Pokemon(although he refused to evolve his Panpour, claiming he would be a surprise to challengers if unevolved, but really he just wanted him to stay small and cute).
Team Plasma never did much in Striaton, which left the three brothers out of the know for the most part; they heard of the Gym Leader ShowdownTM too late to be able to show up for it. Cress felt rather guilty about that, even if Team Plasma ended up being defeated regardless, and made more of an effort to be aware of ongoings in Unova from then on(which really just made him more of a nosy person-- a classy nosy person). He also decided to raise a team to better be able to battle in case a similar incident such as Team Plasma, which is what he has been doing the past three years aside from his waiter job, which understandably takes up most of his time.
In his spare moments, Cress began raising first a Ducklett, which soon evolved and became his pride and joy beside his Panpour(it's not odd to hear him boast about it should you ask how his Swanna is doing), and then an Alomomola; he is currently searching for a Feebas, and can be found on Route 1 fishing for most of his time off.
Aside from catching Pokemon, he's been recently interested in Triple Battles, and has been considering implementing them in the Gym-- or possibly doing one with his brothers as teammates.
Personality:
Cress is, overall, a very confident individual. He is very assured of his place, and it shows in most everything he does─- his posture, his hand gestures, his speech, and his battles. You’ll never find him slouching, or slacking off; he does everything all the way through and with the utmost certainty of himself.
This can often make him come off as arrogant or condescending, which is also an apt description of him; besides his confidence he is very proud and isn’t afraid to show himself as such. His pride shows up most often in battle, and he introduces himself as the “best” of his siblings, whether or not this statement is true. Because of his proud nature, however, he isn’t the most graceful loser after a battle. He tries, certainly, to swallow his pride, but initially it is hard for him to accept his loss. This goes for arguments, as well-- he can be very stubborn about his perspective on occasion.
With Cress's confidence, though, comes his courteous nature. He strives to be an ideal waiter in his and his brothers' cafe, and calls all girls by the title of "Miss," as is polite. Of course, even with this, he isn't above the occasional flirting(and it doesn't help that most of the cafe's female patrons more or less encourage the behavior). While he usually keeps up his polite speech for everyone, the better he knows someone the more likely he is to drop the formalities.
He can be very teasing towards his friends, and enjoys banter well enough, unless it comes from his brother Chili in which case it is one of the most annoying things under the sun. Unfortunately for Cress, this is where most of the banter comes from.
Essentially, Cress's personality is a strong one: very firm in his mannerisms and portrayal, but not unapproachable.
Sample I:
You are dead last on the Trainer Rankings list.
[The screen of the PNG flickers on to reveal Cress, looking Very Irritated. While a certain brother may argue that this is his normal expression, it's the first time he's allowed himself to look so out of place on the network and so it may come as a surprise to some.]
This Trainer Ranking that's been recently implemented in Unova... I can't say I agree with it at all. I'm afraid it seems rather flawed; I'd like to know how exactly they determine these ranks, because...
[he takes an annoyed breath.] I seem to be at the bottom. This cannot possibly be correct-- as a Gym Leader, I surely deserve a higher place than that!
[he looks more sulky than irritated, now.] At the very least, Chili ought to be below me...!
Sample II:
You are crossing a suspension bridge, and one of the ropes has just snapped.
"We haven't been down this way in a while, have we," Cress murmured absentmindedly to the monkey on his shoulder, striding down the path through the woods. Panpour chirped a cheerful reply, tail swinging back and forth happily as the woods began to thin out to reveal the ledge of a cliff, an old bridge spanning the gap not too far off.
"I suppose we haven't had time," he continued, more to himself than his Pokemon. "I'm glad we've been able to, now. The cafe's been pretty busy lately..."
Upon getting closer to the bridge, Cress could see two figures on the far side of it; it was a pair of girls, looking out over the bridge to the ground below and chatting animatedly. He smiled fondly-- one of them looked familiar; perhaps a frequent customer of the cafe?-- and stepped onto the bridge's wooden slats, raising his hand to greet them. Before he could open his mouth, however, Panpour screeched a sharp warning to him, stopping him in his tracks as the monkey pointed urgently to the rope end he had passed.
Cress's eyes widened as he looked at it-- he could see the fibers of the rope straining, ready to unravel and pull apart. How long had it been like that? How long did he have until it snapped completely?
"Get those two off the bridge, now," he managed to order as calmly as possible while he fumbled for Swanna's pokeball, and Panpour hopped off his shoulder and raced to the other side of the bridge, pulling at the girls' pantlegs and urging them to move. Confused, they hesitated for a moment, but then the rope gave with a sickening snap, causing them to shriek and cling to the edge, terrified. Cress had waited too late to move off of the bridge himself and also held onto the remaining rope with one hand, the other closed tightly around Swanna's pokeball as he bit his lip and released him.
"Swanna, get those girls onto the ground!" he commanded sharply as the swan Pokemon materialized into the air, alarmed. It obeyed, speeding over to the two screaming girls, reaching them in time to keep them from falling as they lost their grip on the rope. The shaking of the rope as they were pulled over to the cliffside almost knocked Cress off, but he held on as tightly as he could and prayed the remaining rope wouldn't break as well.
Once the girls were safe, Swanna quickly came to the rescue of its master, latching onto him and lifting him into the air with minimal difficulty. Panpour jumped onto him when he was finally set on the ground, chattering worriedly, and he gave a shaky smile as he went to check on the sobbing girls, hoping that comforting them would calm his own nerves as well.
