The assignment was "High Tech".

Two different interpretations of the same scene:

1) That MP3 player looks like a 70s BBC sci-fi show prop or an early-80s handheld video game.

2) I like the first one better, for some reason. Not sure whether it's the height-to-width ratio or the prominence of the central object.

Thanks for commenting. I might have to crop the second one closer, like the first.

Well, I will try again. One of my previous photos seems suited to this week's contest. If the problem persists... Well, entering contests on LJ communities is a low priority at the moment. I'm not gonna persist too far. :)

the first is better, but only slightly.

there's really no need to remove the product name for internet posting... this image is little more than a product promo shot at best.

As a "high tech" assignment, this reads more like "almost obsolete 2nd rate gadget" than "high tech." ...it would be more interesting to find something really cutting edge... or just go for the irony thing and grab a $7 broken oldschool atari or something. really, iPod knockoffs are hardly "high tech" at this point.

Sorry so negative; the image is of a higher quality than many others, but given that, i feel like it's actually worth telling you my objections because you might improve to something legitimately good. :) cheers.

Yeah, I don't have a lot of money for props. Since I'm likely to (presuming I am fortunate enough to work in my chosen-- err, backup-- field) be called upon to shoot iPod knockoffs (and at that... iPod wasn't the first. This one I beleive is made by one of the companies which made mp3 players before apple got into it...) I though this was a decent learning experience.

But thank you for your input. I need to keep that in mind.

something doesn't have to be "the first" for everything else to become a knockoff... it just has to be ubiquitous, which the iPod definitely is.

anyway, i was suggesting a $7 prop. :P

I noticed that. :) I didn't mean to sound dismissive.

I can't find your business card with your email adress on it. I want to send you a link to an apartment in Union sq. It looks good. I'm going to email them to set up an appointment. Sorry this is taking so long and I haven't been in touch. If something's changed let me know. -R
