do you know who I am?

Couldn't go too much longer without chiming in, so here's my spoiler-free review of...

X-Men 3: The Last Stand - Right to the point, this is not as good as the first two movies. However, Bryan Singer did something amazing with the first two movies. He took a group of characters who until then I had only been moderately amused by, and made them ( Read more... )

I got to thinking, and if they REALLY wanted to have a sense of finality, in the last scene, instead of what they did with the chess set, they could have had Magneto knocking the king down. Think about it. With the empty chair there, and the chess set always being a symbol for the struggle between Xavier and Magnus. It would have been awesome.

Well-done, sir, but that requires a level of symbolism and finesse that both blockbuster-oriented directors and major film studies lack.

Major film studios, damn it. I would hope major film studies would have a pretty good handle on that sort of thing.

Well, the LOTR films were big, and I would say they had both of those qualities.

Also, I like how Juggernaut and Xavier had British accents. You MIGHT be able to say they're brothers, but I still think that'd be too much backstory to too little payoff for this movie.

I agree with all your points, Bry-bry, for once. My review wasn't as long or eloquent, but came to the same basic conclusion. One thing that neither of us mentioned, that I think has to be said, though, is Beast's make-up. In the promo photos he looked cool. Something about the darkness of the blue in the movie, though, struck me as odd. Maybe I was seeing it with a dark screen, or something, but it looked very bizarre.

Also bizarre (at times) was the tech they used at the beginning to make Xavier and Magneto look young. Impressive, don't get me wrong, but a few places (particularly Magneto's head movements) looked unnatural.

Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart are gods in their respective roles.

I accuse thee of fanboyism. As good actors as they are, they couldn't save a script that developed neither story nor character.

...But they're still Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart. Script be damned, put those two in their Xavier/Magneto getups and have them read the phone book and I'd probably watch it.
