This was excellent! A family dinner made awkward by an unpopular political opinion, without knowing what election or what candidate. That was a great idea, and you wrote it so well.

You tipped your hand with Warren's thoughts, if you intended to keep the identity of the party hidden... maybe changing "liberal" to "opinionated" or something similar would cover it.

Although interestingly enough, I read the veteran's uncle as probably having fought to keep the influences like the Russians at bay, only to have them wielding undue influence. Which is the other side of the situation!

Which is to say, I think the piece is still walking on the line rather than on a definite side of it. :)
