well, confidence is certainly important. But not necessary, though most people in L.A. seem to think it is the most important thing in the world. There are plenty of very shy, very insecure, very successful people. They succeed because they have a talent in something (science, music, or whatever). Barbara Streisand is an example: she is a very talented singer, and so shy that she once had to give a performance with her back to the audience because she couldn't face them. But, you see this also helped a lot of the shy people identify with her, with that sort of struggle they also face in public. So it kinda worked

oh and one more thing...confidence is also very attractive. A man without confidence isn't terribly sexy. A woman without confidence...well, it can works sometimes, like with Barbara, or with young girls it can be kind of cute/sweet at first, but it will eventually get old....
I'm afraid I can't abide by that. Corporate heads tend to be mediocre at best, relying on interconnected cronies to shore up their mistakes. How much did the head of Home Depot walk away with after he drove the share value into the toilet?
Your former company shows many examples of poor judgement being reinforced. It is in the toilet, too, but this goes on every bloody day.
I have a small amount of talent, more than a lot, but nowhere near "the Best". You have more than I. I have no grudge against the talented, but many spend hours trying to block the advancement of the talented. Thinking that we exist in ANY kind of meritocracy leads you down the primrose path.
And placing stock in being selfish is just silly. We are ALL interconnected, and the toes you step on today may be attached to the ass you may have to kiss tomorrow!
