I wonder how much longer our visitors will remain?

[Mitsuhide sounds thoughtful.]

Unusual creatures. It has not escaped my notice that some of you have ridden them? I considered it myself for a while, but... I doubt they will be here long enough to train properly, if indeed they can be properly trained at all.

[A brief laugh.]I remember, when I ( Read more... )

[Intrigue colours his tone.]

You are yet to tell me that story.

[Mitsuhide chuckles lightly.]

You have seen the evidence of it, I believe.

I'm sure that I have. Which scar is it?

[Despite asking, he continues to try and work it out by himself. Motochika can tell the battlefield scars from those gained outside battle, so he knows which ones it isn't. He also knows that it must be very faded...]

Not the one upon your left hip?

That's the one.

[It had been a very painful wound; one does not anger a bear, not even one raised amongst and therefore used to humans, without paying some kind of price.]

No other scar on my body can claim to have such an... interesting story behind it.

[He is teasing, slightly.]

Though it's not a long one.

I don't even know how to ride a horse. I wouldn't know where to start with the dinosaurs or a freakin' bear... What's it like?

Well... bears are much slower, of course, and the ride less smooth in comparison to one taken on a horse. But they are a comfortable ride. Strong enough to go through many obstacles that a horse could not, and fearless, too. It takes something rather spectacular to spook a well-trained bear.

[He hums briefly.]

You will not see them as much on a battlefield in my world compared to how often you will see a horse, however, because when I say it takes a lot more time and patience to train them I truly mean it.

I'd be too afraid of it... Y'know. Chewing my face off or something.

I've never actually been on a battlefield unless that place in Greece or wherever the heck it was counts, and that was more of a training area. But then there was that place in the Land of Dragons...

Well, I did not escape from my first experience of training one without injury. He left a scar on my flesh, a reminder not to be so impatient.

[And yes, suddenly he sounds VERY interested.]

...the Land of Dragons?

A bear? [Rena sounds incredulous.] Why a bear?

Bears are strong, and above all fearless. It would take something exceptional to spook a well-trained one, Miss Rena, which is a valuable asset in a mount.

Weren't you scared at all, Mitsuhide-san? Weren't you?

Not at first. I was full of the confidence, and believed my successful training of horses meant I could handle any animal quite easily.

[His tone softens.]

The second time I approached him, now... I was a little afraid then, and very humbled. But I actually listened to my teachers that time, and with the right advice Iearned how to treat him properly. There was no need to fear him, then.

I wonder, as well. One has taken up residence in my kitchen.

One of the smaller ones, I assume... has it proved difficult to live with, at all?

[A pause.]

At any rate, it cannot be much longer, going by past curses? These creatures have lived amongst us for almost a week now, after all. It will be both a relief and a shame when they disappear.

Yes, one of the smaller ones. It is trouble, though Moses-kun seems quite adamant to prove which of the two runs the house.

[ yes, such a crazy kitty! ]

Indeed, though the pirate ghosts have proven the pattern does not hold for all curses.

That cat of your is quite fierce, Lord Kenshin.

[Mitsuhide laughs warmly.]

...that is true. I cannot imagine those who hold power would leave these creatures around forever, though.

You seem to have much experience in riding.

I do.

[He smiles slightly.]

It's an essential skill for a samurai to have; having the companionship and trust of a good mount when you go into battle can make all the difference.

I see. It is good to hear you speak well of them. Most others would not be so generous towards their mounts.
