Hello!

Realized a few things.

1) never made a real NYE/it's a new year entry

Went to a vegan bar in Burbank called Tony's Darts Away with some friends for a private all-you-can-eat / all-you-can-drink party. we worked through the entire beer list, which was something like 23 types of beer, and had each type at least once. it was beautiful. we also started around 7 and went 'til 2. Still, I did discover a chunk of glass laying flat against the inside my high heeled shoe the next day, proving that I was drunk enough to walk around on shattered glass and suffer no ill consequences. or, for that matter, to notice.

being in a private event all night was fun - we essentially got to know everyone in the bar, including skeevy old Australian men with mustaches, and an entire roller derby team who'd arrived in awful prom dresses, wigs, and, yes, mustaches. it was a good night.

they also served something GENIUS - sweet potato fries drenched in maple syrup. I have not yet tried this again, but hope to soon.

2) never followed up on NYC/vacation entry

New York was fun, though nippy. The cold didn't bother me too much, which, since I'm aiming toward snowy places and hadn't been near any in a while, was reassuring. my extended family, like most extended families, continues crazy, and there was DRAMA. luckily, I am quite adept at side-stepping said, and mostly got to watch from the sidelines swapping quips with the sibs. I got a chance to see Kayla and John, who i haven't seen in for fucking ever, and who are now married, and gossip about other Obies. Sara, who is beautiful in every way, took the train up from Philly to visit, and I made it to the Temple of Dendor. I like New York. I don't think, now, that I'd really want to live there, but I like it. I made it back to the Strand bookstore, and picked up a few things.

3) should make a how is life entry

life is good. and life is...quiet. it is so lovely not to have seventeen different deadlines to keep track of, to be done with papers and tests and studying, to not have to make any progress. you may ask, dear reader, do I like this interlude enough to consider not plunging myself back into academic insanity? the answer is no. :) I think I need a certain amount of stress to be satisfied. it is nice to dial it back, though. alex and I have been netflixing a lot lately, showing each other all kinds of wonderful movies.

last night, we watched The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, while wearing cowboy hats and ponchos and leather jackets. we made veggie bacon, southwestern cornbread muffins, coffee, and green beans, and served it up with a bowl of soyburgers, veggie chili, and ketchup mixed together. i am silly. i know. i love doing stuff like this. i've missed doing stuff like this. it's nice.

so there you go!
