Ready to Fly
for goopawahla
~1,050 words | PG | Sho/Aiba, implied Ohmiya | Johnny's Entertainment - Arashi RPS
A/N: I've had this sitting on my flash drive in bits and pieces for months and I finally pulled it together and polished it up. It's one of those wishful-thinking ficlets. :D Bon voyage, goopawahla! ♥

The plane ride is long and boring. After about forty minutes, everyone's initial excitement fades a little when they realize that they still have hours to go before they land.

Jun stuffs his headphones on and boots up his mp3 player, kicking at Aiba's seat peevishly and asking if he could please stop bouncing, for God's sake. Ohno stares out a window with his chin propped on his hand, elbow resting on the arm of his seat. Nino's head is resting on Ohno's other shoulder, breathing softly in his sleep, mouth a little bit open.

Aiba is sitting next to Sho across the aisle from Nino and Ohno, in front of Jun. Of all of them, he's the most excited, and even after Jun's dark warnings about using the safety belt to hang him from the ceiling, he's still almost visibly vibrating with happiness in his seat, tapping out the rhythm to 'Lucky Man' on his arm rest.

Sho has been trying to use the long flight to finish up a book that he hasn't had time to read in the past few months that have been consumed in a whirlwind of concerts, photoshoots, interviews and events.

Trying was a good description of the last hour of Sho's life.

"Plane rides is fun!" Aiba announces in English, loudly, right into Sho's ear. Sho jumps, having been completely absorbed in his effort to get past the third paragraph of the fourth page of the book.

"Are fun," Sho corrects automatically, shifting in his seat further towards the window. Aiba doesn't take the hint and flops more heavily against Sho's side, making his right elbow dig painfully against the arm rest. Sho sighs and readjusts himself, deciding that it's probably a good thing that Aiba has decided to practise his English before they arrive in London.

Aiba beams at him, "Aren't they?" He nuzzles his head against Sho's shoulder, peering at the book. "Has Megami-chan died yet?"

"What?" Sho frowns down at his book. "She's honeymooning with her fiancee in Morocco. What the hell are you talking about?"

"Ne, Shige-san chops her into pieces and bribes some harbour workers to dispose of her body," Aiba says knowledgeably, "Then her ex-boyfriend Hongo-san chases him across the world and gets his revenge. The author was on the same talk show as me during my butai last fall. Good story, huh?"

Sho closes the book shut, closing his eyes in defeat. "Aiba-chan," he says wearily, "Aiba."

"Yesss," Aiba's hair tickles Sho's nose and he shoves the taller boy off him gently, back into his own seat.

"I am going to take a nap," Sho informs him strictly. "And while I am napping, you can quietly practice your English, you can study the concert plans, or you can go and talk to Captain since he's still awake. Actually, I really don't care what you do, as long as you're not flicking dehydrated peanuts at MatsuJun or trying to braid my hair again."

"It's ten points if you get one up his nose." Aiba smiles winningly and Sho crosses his legs, conscious of the half-dozen foil packets of peanuts crunching under his ass.

It's not that Aiba wouldn't still try to get them there, but at least he would know right away if he did.

"You can see the ocean," Ohno says across the aisle, almost to himself. Nino hums absently in his sleep, burrowing his head deeper into the curve of Ohno's shoulder.

Sho smiles indulgently, "Get some sleep, Leader. We're all going to need the rest."

"Ah," Ohno shugs noncommittally, absently tilting his head back against Nino's, his eyes open and thoughtful.

"I'll take a nap with you," Aiba says decisively. Sho reclines his seat, crossing his arms behind his head and closing his eyes.

"That's great, Aiba-chan. Nice and quiet, now." He wonders if any of the staff have some headache medicine handy. There's a sudden heaviness on his shoulder and he cracks an eye open to peek at Aiba, who's reclined his own seat and curled up against Sho's shoulder, sharp chin digging into Sho's collarbone.

"I wonder if there will be lots of people," Aiba says softly, after a few minutes of silence. There's an almost insecure note to his voice and Sho blinks.

"I guess so," Sho stares at the ceiling. He's no good at sleeping in airplanes anyways and he can't quite shake the throbbing, rushing sensation of speed and height even when he knows he's got a full week of concerts and interviews ahead coupled with the promise of at least a day of jetlag. "I mean, it's not Tokyo, but it's still a big city."

"I meant at the concerts," Aiba corrects him, flicking him lightly on the forehead, "How many people could possibly want to see us in England?"

"Apparently enough to sell out three concerts and warrant another one," Sho stretches a little, trying to get into a more comfortable position without dislodging Aiba's head, "The staff said that it's not just England remember? It's Arashi's international debut. There are fans coming from across the world."

"We're super super famous!" Aiba butts Sho's chin with his head and Sho almost swears loud enough to wake Nino as he bit his own tongue. "Aren't you happy, Sho-chan?"

"Uh-huh," Sho grimaces and shifts again, his nose half-buried in Aiba's hair. "God, you're too heavy." He blew off the few strands of Aiba's hair that were tickling his nose. "Of course I'm happy, you moron."

"Good," Aiba beams at him, wide and silly, "So am I."

Sho gave him a tentative smile in response, amusement and affection tugging the corners of his mouth upwards.

It turned into a yelp halfway as Aiba made a wild grab for the peanuts.

It was, Sho reflected, going to be a very long flight.
