Nino liked simple things - even his favourite foods were cheap, easy and plain - tiny milk buns, hamburger. He was a complex person, people often said, a person with lots of layers and sides to him, who didn't easily give away his secrets. Ohno laughed when he heard this, because Nino had always seemed so simple to him. So simple, so easy to understand that it was, he supposed, almost bafflingly complex.
