I believe that Ash's fighting style is... extremely different from a ninja's. So much so that it would take Sasuke off guard enough to give Ash a fighting chance.

I have to abstain from voting, Sakura-san. I haven't seen Ash's powers in combat yet, but I know that he has already attempted to fight both Anakin and the lake monster. He's very bold, at least!
