Feel free to ignore this unless you have some. suggestions. PLEASE if you have any thoughts, commeeentttt. Oh sob, Yakipan, why do you have to make your timeline so fucked up for meeee. Why.
14-15 - Kuroyanagi attends American High School (at least one school year passes as Kid fails to grade again)
16 - Kuroyanagi starts University at Harvard
19 - Kuroyanagi graduates from Harvard, returns to Japan and starts work at Pantasia (it says he's worked at Pantasia for 3 years at the start of the anime IIRC)
19-20 - Kuroyan participates in the Newcomers' battle. (PS HE WINS go to hell - he doesn't actually say this but it's implied I think)
22 - Start of manga/Newcomers' battle. Line is kind of blurry. Manga scanlation says "I'm not even 22 yet," Anime fansubs say "I'm only 22" and I haven't seen the official english translation of that volume of Yakitate Japan. For that matter, during the Monaco Cup, Kanmuri says that the substitution rule means anyone under 22 applies AND he specifically mentions Kuroyan but there is no wayyyyy. Sob. Volume 6 has Kuroyan saying his life was 22 years long. I. I dunno.
Okay, so, somewhere in here, between coming back to Japan, starting at Pantasia and winning 100 straight battles - he lost to Matsushiro Ken, got his food tasting license, became Matsushiro Ken's apprentice (cue Ken's bitching) and became the Head Manager for the Main Store.
I have no idea what order these take place in at all. I am torn between the following:
1.
Lost to Ken
(MONTH RECOVERY!!!)
Became Ken's apprentice
Ken's bitching
Food tasting license
(work work)
Head Manager
2.
Became Ken's apprentice
Ken's bitching
Lost to Ken
(MONTH RECOVERY!!!)
Food tasting license.
(work work)
Head Manager
Both are viable but the way kuroyan talks about losing to Ken being the impetus for him getting his food taster's license makes me think the second is more likely, except I don't know why he would actually beg Ken to let him be his apprentice in that situation. I mean, it's true, Kuroyanagi was less of an asshole then, but the art in that section of the manga seems to imply he was getting a big head from winning all the time. He also says "After entering Pantasia, I realized there were amazing people like Matsushiro and the Meister... I thought, perhaps it would be better for me to be a judge and a scientist rather than an artisan and a scientist. And so I began to take the steps to acquire a taste judging license." Also Ken says that Kuroyan was a "total newcomer" when he became his apprentice. I can totally see Ken SMASHING HIM IN BATTLE to get his way o matsushiro-san is so manly
This is confusing and I hate it a lot.
