Following her arrival at Garden, Elika plunged headfirst into the education being offered, plowing through her classes--especially theoretics and academia--with gusto. While at first resistant to idea of being part of a mercenary organization, she eventually decided that she would take the hand she'd been dealt and do her best to help the world that welcomed her. She double-specialized in WEP-B/INTEL (she'd tried Covert Ops at first, only to realize that she couldn't help but...glow in the dark; she also took a whole ton of para-magic courses, only to decide she preferred her own) and set out on a brief mission shortly thereafter, to test the waters. Sadly, the violent day-to-day life of a SeeD on a mission didn't mesh well with her pacifistic views, so she returned to Garden to assume a teaching position instead.
Abilities & Physical Abnormalities:
IF CLAIRE EVER NEEDS A SUB...
How she manages to be a cushy, vaguely-spoiled princess and still know how to execute a perfect backflip in mid-air is still beyond me, but Elika is not only very fit, but very body-aware.
GRAVITY? FUCK THAT SHIT
Elika is from a kingdom where the main mode of transportation is the Prince's back--I mean leaping onto conveniently-placed poles, ledges and climbing up, under and sideways on a magic carpet ride over any number of obstacles. Suffice to say, Elika can probably get from point A to point B faster than you can, using the power of Parkour.
YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO STICK HER UNDER A LAMP
Elika manipulates light; specifically, she wield the light of her god, Ormazd. She may use it to heal minor wounds, float, or form concussive blasts. (Within canon she uses it to heal sweeping areas of toxified land, but in Balamb she will be unable to do this.) When in dark places, she tends to glow, though thanks to the training she's recieved, she can effectively turn it off with only a little bit of concentration.
Personality:
Elika's entire life has revolved around being the Good Daughter. She is a princess-cum-priestess, devoted to her God first, her people second, and her land third. While it is implied that court life was still buoyant when Elika was young and her mother alive, her father’s descent into depression caused most of the Ahura to leave. She has been therefore raised in near-total isolation for quite some years before the beginning of the game, with only her father and a few remaining guards for company.
The result is a sometimes-awkward young woman who, while desperately wanting to discover the world and its riches, is unsure how to act outside of her known territory. She is incredibly book-smart on a variety of (bronze age) topics; she has absolutely no street smarts. She is polite and kind and educated in a variety of courtly behaviours, yet easy to trick. She can deal in witty repartee, but disapproves of mildly foul language. (See: Elika chastising the Prince for saying 'crap' as he was plummeting off a bridge.) She has never left her father’s kingdom; has never seen the ocean, or ice; Elika has spent the better part of her life dreaming, and while she doesn’t always have the resources to deal with the reality of what's out in the world, she's willing to put a brave front and face it. Her ability to keep her calm in new situations and think fast on her feet is, in fact, her saving grace during the game. She's curious about things she doesn’t know about, and while she is proud of her knowledge she doesn’t hesitate to ask questions; she honestly enjoys learning. Being around the Prince has made her at least somewhat less likely to swallow nonsense, or at least more on the lookout for obvious lies, but she tends to forget this in her enthusiasm.
Speaking of which, Elika is very self-motivated and goal-oriented, and despite being a princess, isn't afraid to get her hands dirty to protect what's important or do what's right. She will bend over backwards to please her loved ones, or to fulfill what she perceives as her duty, even going so far as to shoulder responsibilities that aren’t hers. (See: her father's deal with Ahriman becoming 'her' problem.) She downplays her own negative feelings and grief in order to better compose with that of those she cares about. She's easy to get along with, if only because she's so eager to please, but is almost too trusting. She's not stupid; but she will always see the good in people first and base her opinions on that rather than cool reason. In sum, Elika is very idealistic, and while her experience with the Prince has tempered this in many respects, it remains an exploitable flaw.
On the subject of religion, if not much else, Elika is quite firm. While she is by no means a zealot, the princess of the Ahura has lived her life in a culture where religion and ritual take center stage in day-to-day life; as such, she is less prone to flexibility on spiritual matters. The Prince often calls her devotion into question--especially since the God of Light shines only by his absence--but she defends Ormazd to the last and is annoyed by the Prince's criticisms and disparaging remarks. While it's fairly obvious that simply being around her new friend makes the doubt in Elika's heart grow, she is living proof of her god's power; furthermore, it's made clear she wants to believe--her faith having provided a powerful pillar of stability in her life up until the events of the game.
What are your plans for the character in-game?
Get a ton of CR and have voicetwin shenanigans with Ashe!
Anything else?
Nope!
i) IC Questionnaire:
What do you prefer to be known as?
Just 'Elika', if you please.
How old are you?
Twenty-three.
Do you have any history in combat?
I do.
If so, have you ever killed?
[ Her mouth thins in distaste. ] Yes. My hand was forced.
i) How do you feel when you get involved in some project that calls for immediate and rapid activity?
[ Funny you should ask, she was only recently running around re-sealing a dark god! ] I do my best to engage in 'immediate and rapid activity'.
ii) Do you organize and initiate leisure activities?
Do you mean gatherings? I might perhaps organize something, but being none too fond of them myself...I don't usually initiate them, no.
iii) What role do you take when working in a group?
Whichever role is required of me.
iv) How talkative are you around other people?
[ A flash of mild surprise; she wasn't expecting that question. ] I'm...averagely talkative, I suppose?
v) What three things would you want to have with you on a desert island? State your reasoning.
Hmmm. Some sort of fishing apparatus, in order to catch food; some sort of tent for shelter; and clean water, of course.
vi) Is it important to be liked by a wide range of people?
I do not believe so; rather, I'd assert that it's important to be respected by a wide range of people. Only the affection of a few close, trusted friends is truly important.
vii) When the odds are against you, is it worth taking a chance?
Always.
viii) Do you consider yourself to be an impulsive person?
[ Slightly amused. ] I don't consider myself so, no, but opinions may differ.
ix) Would you agree that planning things ahead takes the fun out of life?
I couldn't disagree more.
x) Do you like surprises?
I think I've had enough of those for one lifetime.
xi) Do you sometimes wonder if there is something wrong with you?
[ ... ] No. Never.
xii) Do you consider yourself to be smarter than your superiors, and disagree with their decisions?
My only superior is Ormazd, and His light guides me. I could never claim to be greater than him.
xiii) Lastly, how do you feel about cabbages?
I don't...mind them? But we didn't eat them very often. [ Lolol servants' food. ]
