This was it...the night everything went down, good or bad. The night that could end in one of two ways: Joker could find himself back in Arkham before daybreak, or he could give us the slip and live to fight another day.

Personally, I enjoyed the former much more than the latter.

I had my assignment on who I needed to keep my pair of opaque eyes on-the catering staff. Nightwing had the decorating staff. Batman had the in-house security. While perched across the street from the Gotham City Convention Center, I took the time to marvel at it's gothic look. The center was one of the few buildings that had survived the quake, and No Man's Land and the gang wars.

It may have been thanks to Bruce Wayne and Wayne Enterprises that the building wasn't taken down by bulldozers, but it was thanks to the majority of Gotham itself that saw the place continue to see a new sunrise and sunset.

"Think we should expect any...surprises?" I asked quietly, keeping watch on the catering staff at the same time. Bruce and Dick both knew who I meant, ( ... )

Nightwing's gaze never left the building-- or his assignment, at that. He was perched on one knee, one hand resting gently on the surface beneath him, looking as though he were ready to pounce at any second.

He didn't even turn to look towards Robin when his question broke the silence.

"We don't really have a choice. I wouldn't put it past him to show up tonight," he said grimly.

We all had a chip with the Joker in one way or another-Jason's chip just happened to be deeper than any of ours. Nightwing had a point-it wouldn't do any good to not acknowledge his arrival here. Though, with Joker and Jason, there would be a difference:

The Joker had an unknown number of henchmen. Jason had himself, and an unknown number of weapons. Neither one good in any way.

"When he deals his hand, which one of us calls his bluff?" I replied, figuring the situation was right to use a poker analogy. We were literally putting down all our chips at this one event.

He allows the question to go unanswered.

The night will unfold. Everything will be done within their power to prevent and contain the situation. There are details however that will be beyond his control. How and when will Joker makes his move? Where will Jason be revealed? Time and preparedness will only take them so far. Circumstance will dictate the rest.

Despite his confidence in both Nightwing and Robin's abilities, he does not relish the idea of exposing them to dual simultaneous threats. Two threats, he knows, that are both dangerous and deadly.
