Presumably, our pups have lives that happen when we aren't playing them, as none of us can play 24/7. Bobby checks on the Winchesters on the regular, but not in a hovering overprotective parent kind of way or anything. His door's always open in case John or either of the boys need to stay there for whatever reason, so feel free to handwave that if you need to.
