"John!"

Hera came running, launched and wrapped herself around John's legs.

"Mommy said you were hunting! She said I couldn't go!" Hera babbled, jumping up and down with all the bottled up energy of a three year old.

"John," came Sharon's much calmer response as she came out of the bedroom. Her eyes took in the scene, hoping to see Sam with him. She bit her lip, stepped close to wipe some of the sweat and dirt from his forehead with her thumb. "Did you find anything?"

Desperately needing to take a load off for a few minutes, John nearly lost his balance when Hera attached herself to his leg. One arm flew out and he ground his heels down into the ground to help steady himself. Though tired, he was glad to see her. Reaching down to ruffle her hair, he forced a small smile. "Not this time, kiddo. But maybe in a coupla days, if your mommy says it's okay, we can go and hunt for frogs and butterflies, yeah? Would you like that?"

He looked up when he felt Sharon's light touch against his skin. For a long moment, he couldn't bear to say anything, teeth grinding together slowly. Mutely, he shook his head until he could will himself to say the words. "Nothing yet. The others are still out there. I'm meeting up with them in a bit."
