A friend of mine has this belief that things he buys for himself are invariably short lived and hence is always reluctant to spend a sizeable sum of money on anything he truly needs. I was just wondering how this came to pass

what i believe is that we have one life and we need to lead it well. Saving is important i agree .. but foregoing u'r happiness is not an option i think. Being happy is the supreme thing in life and money plays an important role in getting us to it. So if it gets u happiness in whtever form then go for it..
