I smell paint and thinner everywhere having spent the better part of the day helping paint the front door and a few fixtures around the windows of my sister's house. Once that was taken care of with as few paint smears on clothes and on the wrong surfaces as possbile we turned our attention to the backyard. I had plucked some 300 persimmons from ( Read more... )

WOW! you have a persimmon tree! I know it seems like such a stupid thing to exclaim over, but honestly to me that sounds like the height of "cool". All we have is this gnarly old apple tree which bear rather manky fruits, as mummy refuses to spray it with insecticides.
I always thought that Persimmon should be spelled Persimone, it would give the fruit far more grace than the true spelling confers on it (like the name of Demeter's daughter).

Physical labour always brings with it a certain satisfaction and contentment that mental work never seem to give...

PS: why does your spell checker think that "labour" is wrong, it apparently prefers l'amour to labour....how silly..

The persimmon tree came with the house, having been planted by the previous resident. My sister planted apples and plucots (plum x apricot I presume). I tried planting a lychee - it grew maybe 6 inches and then died :(

Use 'Persephone' instead of 'Demeter's daughter' and almost every male Matrix junkie (and some females) will have visions of Monica Bellucci! But yes, I find persimmone more appealing and used to spell it that way till I looked it up to link to information about it for this post.

Note to self: Fix broken links to images on posts!

I have no idea what the climate of salt lake city is ...but that a lychee tree even grew 6 inches is impressive :o)

All you get over in LV is Quinces, quite literally in every garden...like the invasion of Cox apple trees in Suburban London...
Rather funny really.

being no Matrix Junky, the fact that Bellucci's character was named Persephone totally escaped me...
how very apt though...

I'm in Salt Lake City now. All the gardening was done at my sister's house in California.
