I'm somewhat frightened to comment because we just over our last argument but I agree with Melissa. I was basically going to say the same thing.

And there was probable cause... People at our school have problems, and it's dumb of them to bring their drugs to school when we know something like this could happen because like Melissa said we are a private school. The administration is not blind to the drug issues a lot of people have... They acted on it, I don't think thats a bad thing at all.

I agree with you on some things, like the distraction part, but I honestly feel it needed to happen.

PS-I think Ms Masen would be proud of you for this entry. Ha. Use those government skills! YAY for being done with her though! Ha. [This was a random ps, and it wasn't sarcastic at all ha]

ok, the fight is in the past, i let it go its just not worth it. I agree with you that it needed to happen in some way. But the manner in which it was executed is what i feel was wrong. We should have a right in this country to refuse to have our personal articles searched without probable cause. There is a drug problem in the city of detroit, does that give police the right to search everyone thatlives there? I value you opinion. that is what makes our country great, you have the right to agree or disagree with the actions of the government. The problem is that administration had to use an unecessary outside force. If administration cannot handle their school, maybe they are in the wrong business.

It's not the administrations fault that people have brought illegal substances into our school. They had to take some sort of action, it's not that they can't handle their school... Bringing in an outside force was very smart. It was a much needed wake up call. People need to start thinking about what they're bringing into our school.

And the only way people got searched was if the dog smelled something, having a dog sniff your stuff didnt kill anyone I dont think.

The city of Detroit is bigger than Bishop Foley... And I know that this occurance is not gonna change the fact that people do drugs, but I think the point was to make people think before they bring their drugs to school.

f. The Supreme Court has ruled that a sniff of unattended personal belongings is not the same as a search ( ... )

you call me an idiot but insulting me doesnt make you look very smart either.
They are not unnattented belongings the were our bookbags that were within our possession, obviously u don't know me or you would know that i dont do drugs. I just don't agree with this and i made a stand. Just because its law doesnt make it right. Maybe i don't like the law as is. Just because im not satified with my current situation and im willing to stand up for my beliefs?

"Do you seriously think that bringing dogs to sniff through your school is bringing us closer to being under the control of an oppressive government?"
Ummm yes. going through everyones personal belongings tends to be in the category of control.

Way to go with your anonymous comments, i can see you have real guts. Ladies and gentlemen, this person is a coward. It's people like this who deserve to be thrown in prison for no reason and have their civil rights trampled.

Honesty, why are you taking so much offence to all of this when you didnt even have anything on you, or at least you wernt at all caught with anything. This happends at schools all around, and honestly, our school does have a big drug problem, and it did need to be handled. They did take the right precautions, and anyone who brings drugs into school, honestly, their idiots.

Unfortunately, your school does have the right to do this. Sucks, I know.

Funny you posted this entry though because I was JUST talking to my roommate Andrea about her ghetto school (she's from Battle Creek). She said that every once in a while, cops + dogs would come and sniff out lockers, backpacks, and worse....cars. She said they'd be like, "Oh shit the dogs are here today," because they weren't allowed to go out to lunch without having their car searched.

It's just new and surprising to you because we're from rich little Rochester Hills where ghetto shit like that doesn't go down. And what makes it worse is that you go to a private school, so you're technically on private property when at school. They can legally search you whenever/however they want. But this happens allllllll over the rest of the state. We were kind of lucky it never happens in Rochester (till now). But at least they're working to keep drugs out of the school environment; sounds like a good idea to me.
