There's really not much to say about this ad, lol. I think it speaks for itself. (As does the Brokeback Mountain jacket. Good choice, Rick).
I don't think there's anything wrong with mentioning religion in a campaign message. In fact, I prefer it, because it lets me know as a voter that you're unlikely to uphold separation of church and state in your policies and I know not to vote for you.
I am not a republican and if I was this ad would immediately turn me off for voting for Rick Perry. Not that I care for him much to begin with. There are some things he has said in debates that have not sat well with me.
I am hoping Obama gets reelected. The candiate pool for Republicans doesn't look to choc full of interesting people. If were Republican and had to narrow down my choices at this point of who to vote for in the Primary it would be between Huntsman and Romney.
I don't think advertising his faith is necessarily going to get him votes. Some people are turned off by blatant Christian posturing. The trouble with this ad is he says things that are just incorrect. Obama is not fighting a war on religion, and children are not prevented from celebrating Christmas openly.
I found it amusing to read that the background music was composed by a gay Jew. :D
As I keep telling people whenever the issue of religion in politics comes up, if you look at CIA.gov's world factbook, you'd see that about 20% of the population (figures from 2007) is not Christian. So the BS conservatives spew about how the USA is a christian nation and there should be prayers in school annoys the hell out of me. Just like how no one has any business getting pissed off at me for not saying the Pledge of Allegiance. If this was a Christian nation the words "one nation under God" would've been in the pledge from the beginning and not stuck in there in the 50s. /Rant
Anyway, as many others have said, the fact that he did this ridiculous video just shows me how he is totally the wrong candidate to vote for.
