The Beginner's Lucky Set is much easier to use than the normal one, the rings (the bull's eye) are much bigger!
Different baits will get you different fishes, more expensive bait = better fish. The rod will determine the difficulty of fishing or the size of the rings, more expensive rod = bigger rings. (But rare fishes will have smaller rings

The lures that are sold by both the girl and the guy are for better fishes. With the default lure you can only get really small fishes or seaweed.
Why can't you use the worm lure? You can change your rod and lure by clicking on the button in the small window (in step 4 second pic)

Was it like a pop-up message after you caught the fish? It's probably bonus GET! You get bonus points when you get more new types of fish. They also have pop-up messages for level up, when you beat your own record (size) etc. :D

I know this post is kinda old, but I need some help ^^; On my first visit to the fishing spot, I accidentally X'ed out of the instructional popup, where you get your fishing equipment? And now I don't know how to get it back DD: Is there anyway to get the equipment without it??

Erm..I think that step is only for choosing your equipment, even if you skipped it, you should still have the 2 sets. Try changing it through the little window on the top left corner (step 4 pic 2). Hope that helps :)
