The pilot got me hooked immediately. I watch very little TV, I can't find anything that interests me.So when I saw a commercial for this new show, and I wanted to watch it,I knew it was something special. The pilot was amazing, the premise,the plot, the acting, the way they shot New York,the pace of the show, and, most of all,Neal. I fell in love with him when he was in the Thrift Store. What a great scene! I saw the vulnerability under the suave exterior then and through the rest of the show.Matt,who I had never seen before, ran the gamut of emotions and became several personas one after the other. Tim impressed me by showing feelings under his gruff exterior-I felt that he liked Neal even though he didn't act or sound like it at first. The two of them together fit perfectly,nothing seemed forced.The show stayed true to the pilot,and I still love it so much. I never felt like this about any other show. I have absolutely no nitpicking problems with any of it, and I will eagerly follow it wherever it takes me.
The pilot grabbed me and wouldn't let go!! Even in my previous fandom, it took a season to go from 'a show I really liked' to 'a show I fanned over' - but WC got me right from the start!! And it was Neal who drew me in - as well as the banter between Peter and Neal (I'm a sucker for good banter) - and yes, the fact you could see there was more to Neal than just the conman, that there was a vulnerability underneath!
I also loved Peter and Elizabeth's relationship, especially as I watched more episodes. I'm not a shipper and I'm not into romance, but I love that Peter and El are still very much in love after 10 years of marriage and that their relationship is so stable and strong. And most of their romantic scenes have an undercurrent of either humour or playfulness that makes them bearable to a non-romantic like me!! :)
I love Peter and Elizabeth's relationship as well. I like that Elizabeth goes with the flow; they both know each other very, very well. I love their humorous banter, too. I look forward to all their scenes together. When Neal joins in, it's the icing on the cake.
Wow, I was going to write almost exactly the same that you did, leesa_perrie. :) With the exception that it took me eight episodes (including the pilot) to go from "a show I like" to full fangirl modus. And I'm a fan of Mozzie, he's just as quirky as you can get while being (mostly) believable. :)
What's my favourite thing about White Collar? It's very hard to name only one, but I'll go with why I started watching the show in the first place: "the concept". I'd read quite a bit about Matt Bomer, and vaguely knew he was in a TV show, but it wasn't until I actually read the outline about an FBI agent and a criminal working together that the penny dropped. It reminded me of the Shadow of the Templar stories, which I love. I managed to rent Series 1 and 2, and was instantly captivated. Bingo! New fandom love.
Matt's gorgeous, the rest of the cast are fine actors, the plots are often intriguing, and the settings are amazing - these things all add to my enjoyment of the show.
That's a tough one, but my broad answer has to be that I love the interaction between the characters and how they play off each other. The first thing that drew me into the show was the dynamic between Peter and Neal.
I also love the humor on the show, which often goes hand in hand with the characters.
Having read yours, all I can say is YES to everything!! Neal pulled me in, but I don't think he alone would have been enough to turn it from 'a show I like' to 'a show I LOVE' - the whole premise, the characters and character building and everthing else above all works to keep me here!
Also I ADORE the way the show is filmed - the quirky angles, the shots through glass, the use of reflective tables, that the person speaking doesn't have to be the person you're looking at, plus the fact that rain doesn't phase them (they just make it part of the scene, unlike some shows that view rain as diastrous unless plot decrees it to be there!) and, well, it only happens to be set in my favourite US city (the only US city I've been to, so there may be some bias there!) that contains my favourite-ist of all Art Dec building (that I've seen, I'm no expert on Art Deco) - that you just happen to be able to see from Neal's balcony!! :D
Just the way WC is filmed makes me want to visit New York, and before I watched the show, I never would have considered it.
Although I need to remember to visit in the summer, going on vacation, in winter, to another city that's covered in snow...not my idea of a great vacation... {what can I say, not all Canadians are thrilled with snow six to seven months of the year *g*}
I think we went in April or early May and the weather was okay. Not freezing, not boiling hot - coats needed, but not full cold weather gear. (I'm one of those people who hate it when it gets over 80 degrees - I really don't do heat very well!) There was the odd bit of rain here and there, but I'm British - rain doesn't stop us having fun! Hey, we even have fun moaning about it!! We could win a gold medal for that, if there was such a thing! :D
