Gingersaurus is right. But I have another question: are you really playing your game from zip files, or do you mean that you unzipped them from a file? Because I can't imagine how you would play from files that are in a zipped condition.
Also, to expand on Gingersaurus' response: your game should have generated both program files and documents files. Usually before you've put any cc into your game, there isn't a downloads subfolder in the documents>ea games>sims 2 folder, and you have to create it. So you do that: you make a folder in there and label it "Downloads."
Oh! it is in its unzipped form, yes. Rather than a crack/iso or an actual disk.
To clarify: even if the game launches from M&G, i can still put skins and such in something like "documents>ea games>sims 2 folder>downloads"? Because i think i tried that(i did the 'readme' on the most recent mod that specified that path, i'm certain), and it didn't want to work for some reason.
It should work. My game is on the M&G engine and it works.
Let's try some of the basics. Your downloads are all unzipped also?
Did you see the question come up to enable custom content? After you agree to that, the custom content won't show up until you save, close, and open the game again. Also, on one or two installs that I did, I seem to have needed to go through that twice.
I forget whether you have a separate checkbox to show the custom content in the catalog besides enabling it? If you do, it's somewhere in the options, and again, you'll have to save, close, and restart for it to work.
So having gone and written out a new path "ea/downloads" I put a bunch of things there and loaded my game, and nada.
1) all downloads are out of their folders, in their raw form.
2) yes! theres some CC that came with my initial install download that i have to check off on everytime a hood loads up. 2b) there is button in buymode for CC that ive noticed but im fine with using CC objects i find.
my issue is the CAS CC um, splotch star button. initially I could enable it so that rainbow colored options showed up, but i can't anymore. i suspect a stray boolprop is to blame for this, but i didnt wanna uninstall and lose my saved lots.

I hope that helps!
