Hee. Fascinating evening yesterday at the Sotheby's Contemporary (stuff after 1950 it would appear) Art Auction. My sweet friend Sinduja tells me that Teh Eyes Of The Art World were all focussed on New Bond Street last night as this was a crucial sale for the House. Sorry...I'm no help. I happen to think people are brainwashed into thinking utter crap is art because someone tells them it is. My stupid country paid 1.5 million for a friggin' stripe "Voice of Fire".
The top picture is okay, but I wouldn't pay good money for it...the second is utter shite, IMHO.
I like Constable, Rembrandt, DaVinci...even Picasso. sorry for the rant...but I really hate what passes for "art" these days

At a time when a red pot full of mussels and a urinal are considered art, nothing surprises me. But the second painting looks like something a three-year-old drew. Give me Rubens, the Flemish primitives and even Dali any day. I can even go so far as to appreciate Magritte, because it's all still figurative in a 'the person who painted this had talent' kind of way and perhaps also a little bit because of the, apparently abounding, sexual symbolism. ;)

I'm not a contemporary art kind of person. Can you tell? *g*

Personally I'm not a fan of shit art. I thought that second one was doodled by my brother when he was aged four. I was wrong!

Well the artist is happy now so good for him...wish that money went to dragging England down closer to Spain so the Ship wouldn't have to sail so damn far to snog each other.
