Don't let go of that feeling that your friendship with him/her will return.
Instead, keep it in a box, snug it up and remember where you put it.
Go on living your life, enjoy its precious gifts and cherish the memories. Don't ever forget to live it to the fullest.
Then, when fate has decided that you two should ever come across again, slowly open the box that you've snug up.
Don't rush, take your time, be patient in reaching out to him/her.
Enjoy the time you have with him/her, enjoy "every second" while it lasts.
And then when it's time to go, keep that box again snugly and wait again, until you cross paths once more.
It takes some time to work this out and all the more painful. But they say, no pain no gain. I hope this could help you even in a small way. :)
