Tutorial for adding Eyeliner to a image

This is the process for my icon. That should be incentive enough....

For Photoshop CS2. Used the pen tool/paths
If any of the pics go out because of bandwidth, let me know and I can reupload them.

I made a brush, using the default PS ones. It's called Wax Pencil. Though I suppose any brush that's a bit "rough" would be ok. I have it at 8px.

I had the setting for it like this. You can change them if you go Window>Brushes

The brush is here if you want to download it instead. Obviously, it's for Photoshop CS2.

K, you have to have that as the active brush thing when you switch it to the pen tool, because when you go to stroke it, you can't pick the brush to use, and otherwise you might get the wrong brush and it will look weird.

Now, for the paths. Always start at the corner of the eye, because of the brush fade. Otherwise it will be backwards in width. It's a good idea to zoom in a bit, so its easier to see what you're doing.

Make a new layer and that the path settings on the top bar are the same, and click once at the outer corner of the eye to start a new path.

Next, click around the inner corner of the eye. Near that tear duct thing.

Now click in the middle of the line you made somewhere, and you get a new anchor point.

Next, click the new anchor point you just created while pressing the control key and drag it til it looks like it fits the eye.

Now, right click somewhere on the image and click "Stroke Path". I have it checked on simulate pressure. And make sure that its set to the brush tool. To delete the path, just right click again and select "delete path"

You can just do this again for the upper eyelid too, its basically the same, though a bit more tricky with the shape and you might have to make 2 different anchor points.

Now, I think it looks a bit too uniform (want all good and debauched like), so I Gaussian Blurred (Filters> Blur> Gaussian Blur) at 1.6px.

Now, I wanted it a bit darker, so I duplicated the layer, set it overlay 100% and reduced the opacity of the original to 57%.

I suppose that that's it. Though its different for different perspectives obviously.

For the other eye, I did the exact same thing, though I used a large soft brush and erased the thick parts on the outer eye, since it looked strange.

I expect a billion icons to come out with eyeliner very, very soon...
