Shifter wakes up with the unshakeable feeling that Something Is Wrong.

For one thing, she's wearing a big fuzzy black... thing... that, while comfortable, smells like male and is about four times as large as it needs to be.

For another thing, when she looks at the air, the brightly coloured strands of something-or-other that she's used to seeing have changed. The change isn't catastrophic, and she can't quite place what it is, but it's there. She puts her hand out to feel the currents. It takes her awhile to sort it out, just like always; the sensation of feeling the air on the outside of her skin and these on the inside is odd and difficult to understand. But just like always, she manages.

Here's a bright green one that she knows leads to somebody downstairs. She could have sworn that it used to have hints of orange, and the texture was definitely sharper and warmer than it is now.

There's a familiar tangle of them, like the trunk of a mangrove tree. It definitely used to be a lot bigger. She walks over to it and runs her hands through it. So much of it is gone, and so much has changed. Many of them are now more subtly textured than before, and more have lost colours to varying degrees.

This worries her. She reaches for her own current and holds it for a moment. It's as bright and multicoloured as ever, and the texture is just the same. She smiles in relief - at least she herself hasn't changed.

Then she looks to the bedroom door, lost in thought. After awhile, she shrugs, puts on some real clothing, and goes to visit the Nexus.
