Fuck, that female marines slideshow, fuck. I want to write a million stories about those women. I want to see a million stories about those women. And that last picture, the one you picked out, I think it grabs me so hard because I've seen so many versions of that very same picture with men, and seeing it with women is, yeah, stunning.

right? my other favorite is the one where she takes off her helmet to prove she's a woman - because of her hair, i guess?

and it's also - for all i love, say, generation kill, it is on no level a book/series about women. not any women. so the slight skew to consider what it would be like if it were is just blowing my fucking mind.

Man, my mind went on this awesome little thought-path where a reporter followed these women around and then wrote a book about it or even just a longer article than a three-pager that talks about vacation plans at the end (although i can't lie and I'm now totally shipping Oliver and Robertson--they're going to Times Square together etc. etc.), and then I remember that probably an article like that would just set off a political shitshow that would end up getting female soldiers called back even farther. But maybe not, and in any case, clearly women's roles in the military need to be discussed and it would be nice if some section of national discourse was devoted to that...

Anyway, I keep coming back to these pictures even just for the physicality on display here, so outside of mainstream images of women. The line of Corporal Oliver's shoulder and her strong back in the 15th photo, man, I could see more of these.

"I want a Generation Kill about female marines" was, in fact, my first thought looking through those photos.

In conclusion:
