So we watched this yday, but I was too busy crazy finishing my crossovering fill to type up a review then (this might be a thing? It might not stick, but eh two weeks in a row)
Soooooo we finally got Discovery.
The captain is a crazy sociopathic southern american? Like, we were both thrown by the white guy and the fortune cookies, and the tribble - and then he was pretty shady - and THEN there was the mauling lab O.O
I liked Michael again in this episode (yay) - to be honest, she was the only thing that really wasn't that problematic?
After last week and dang it no andorians, they got mentioned, but in a 'they are horrible, criminals' sense so......ummmmm, thanks discovery?
The whole crew are kinda douches? Not even in an understandable way, because she's apparently the person who started the war (somehow? like she mutined, got locked up, then all the things went down?) Suri was the worst :(
I might warm to the cadet - who I think is meant to be autistic? Or something, besides just weird. And she has merida hair (I have no idea how that made such a neat bun, like mine isn't that bad (partly because it ain't permed) and I can not get a neat bun, or straight hair for longer than three hours.....)
Alice in Wonderland, and first Amanda mention for yay.
Basically - this didn't feel at all like Star Trek. It's more of the dark, and darkly lit because we have to have that in scifi now don't you know, and questionable future. It doesn't even have the sense of humour you got a points in all of the Star Treks (even DSN!)
It seems to be headed in a US version of WWII direction - complete with their own philadelphia experiment bent....yeah I know it's a conspiracy theory thing, but it's used so much in scifi it was literally my first thought when they got onto the ship....
So - yeah, after the first two episodes that offered Star Trek feel, this was not at all like Star Trek :/ It was much more reboot Battlestar Galactica. Which you know, may well be exactly the thing (I have feelings for both BGs and the original is just soooo hopeful and offering something of a light to people in a terrible place - while reboot is like DOOOOOM, with characters that drag you in to the doom.)
I hope some of you are enjoying it though! I will have to see if we stick it out or not, which I never thought I would be saying.
