That's not a date; those are the places of my
karate tournament today.
I enjoy competing in tourneys, but all the WAITING really bothers me. It's tough for us because Kid[1] competes so early due to his being a Tiny Tiger; his rings compete first, before the competition officially starts. I know that waiting is a part of a tourney, but you'd think that with all the technology we have available, we could make this a bit more streamlined. Anyway.
He did as well as he needed to. He chose for his weapon the long stick, the only reason for his choosing it is because his mom uses that, despite his working with the nunchucks in class. Oh, well, it wasn't for points nor place.
Kid[0] had a tougher ring than usual. He got third in weapons. For the past few tourneys, he kind of did a simple thing and didn't really have a direction nor any "oomph." This time he tried something different and had more intensity behind it. He did as well has he had been for the form, but he didn't place. Similar with sparring; he lost his first match. He seemed to take the results pretty well, but he was occasionally a little upset.
exwxgirl got called for her ring, and I was called mine shortly thereafter, so I didn't get to see how well she did. Later, she found out she got 2 second places, and she was happy with that with the competition she had in her ring, including a very limber 17-year-old.
Then it was my turn. There were 4 other guys in my ring. I was first up with form (not a great place to be), and I goofed on one part of the form - I put down my foot on a double kick. I got third. For weapons, I got second place (out of two :-/ ). For sparring, I got a bye in the draw, won my first match (yay!) but lost to a taller and better sparrer, so I got second.
I think, if things fall out the way I think they will, I will be state champion for weapons (I had no competition) and possibly for sparring (I was tied with a guy who finished lower than me today). I hoped for a triple crown, but I frakked up the form, so I missed out on that. Oh, well; that's not bad, I guess.
