And it makes me wonder, why are these bits of info that make one seem so enticing then turned into secrets - things hidden from others?

Perhaps people are afraid of being different? Maybe they just want to fit in with the crowd, and these "bits of info" are only things that they think will make them -weird-. I'm not sure.
