I'm in awe of my friends

Feb 23, 2005 17:30

In the wee hours of this morning (just over 13 hours ago), I requested $10 apiece from the members of my flist who were able to donate to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, but who had not yet done so.

BTW, for those of you who haven't donated for and who feel guilty about it. STOP NOW! You can't pay the rent with a charitible contribution. Warm feelings in your heart won't keep you warm this winter. A fulfilled soul doesn't do much to fill the stomach. All of the bills that life keeps throwing at you need to be paid... they really do. When you have extra to spare, you'll find something worthwhile to do with it. In the meantime, rejoice with me that so many people have been able to donate so much, and do NOT berate yourself for not joining their ranks. Really. Honest. I'm not kidding, now stop it! 'kay now?

Do you folks realize that since this morning, the average donation to my walker account has been more than twice my requested amount and that, together, you've donated over $250 towards breast cancer research... TODAY!!!.

Today's ELEVEN donations, btw, have come from: MD, VA, WV, NC, and even from CA. This, plus the already existing DC, KY, MA, and CT, bring up my total state count to nine (with the most coming from MD -- go figure since that's where I live!)

Overall, the 36 donations I've received to date have ranged from $1 to $401 (not making this up!), with an average just under $50 per person. The most common amount (over a third of them) has been $20.

Oh yeah, and I had to change these numbers twice while I was tying!

66 days until the walk... and counting. I am amazed and thankful at the generousity of every last one of you.
Wow!

cancersucks, fundraising
