I have a old habit I need to break. Double spacing after a period. Services like twitter, plurk and pownce are making me painfully aware of my old habits (due to the 140 char limit). All I can guess is that it was from my days of learning how to type on a typewriter.

Amusing links on the topic:

I had never been taught to double space after a period growing up, but in my current job answering e-mail all day they insist on it. (They also insist on email instead of e-mail, which I don't care for.) At any rate, this job has gotten me into the habit of double spacing after periods and I do it all the time; like right now even though I know it will be irrelevant once I hit Post Comment.

I was trained to double space in typing class, back when computers were still an expensive novelty for a family, but specifically broke the habit when I was in college about fifteen years ago once I learned the reasons for it had become moot with the passing of the typewriter into niche product. Back at the time, there was special software add-ons to block the extra space for you while you typed.

That last link makes me weep for humanity. People who say they'll double space until they die have too much spare time and not the first idea of what to do with it.

Well..shoot. I guess that puts me in that category! I still double-space...obviously. It's a habit that's firmly ingrained in me and I doubt that I'll ever be able to break.

*slaps hands* Bad! Don't ever double-space after a period!
